Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9 - 12th March 2013]

Do we have you or Inter next round if we get through cm?

I remember hearing it but not sure if it was just my Mackem mate BS'ing as usual :p

I thought a draw would have been a fair result today, Spurs showed today what a good side they are, especially after going 2-1 up. Once Rodgers changed the formation a bit with Allen coming on, we started to get some control of the midfield again.

Daft challenge from Assou-Ekotto for the pen, no idea what he was thinking.

starting to feel a little iffy about 4th now but if spurs won the europa cup and finished 5th i'd be happy :D

I think I'd agree with that, we'll really see if things have changed mentally in the next few games.

I only saw the first 15 minutes or so but Parker looked back to his form previous to the Inter game, did he get any better?

odds on arsenal and liverpool getting 3rd and 4th?? :D

LOL our chances of finishing in the top4 aren't exactly great. Sure we might have the easiest run out of Spurs and Chelsea but we have struggled to beat teams that other teams batter into the ground lol.

But thanks Liverpool, you did what we couldn't manage to do last week...so ta very much...now down to Arsenal to take advantage of Spurs losing.

parker wasn't that great tbh but dembele was good when he was central. the good thing is that sandro will be back next season so we may never see livermore again (as nice a lad as he is, he's not prem standard) sig did ok in small doses, arguably could've/should've scored. holtby had a 10 min run out and made no impact.

defoe is a joke. i'd rather we stuck bale as striker when lennon is back and have sig left, holtby in the hole.

No idea what Walker was doing for Liverpool's second either, just seen the goals, absolutely criminal for a side to be making those kind of errors in big games like today. Really hope Liverpool smash Southampton to pieces next week, need them to go down and next weeks game will be a massive part of assuring that happens

For some unknown reason, I still think we'll get a top 4 finish. I was hoping for united to come back from the real madrid game and thump chelsea so that their morale would fall further unfortunately that didn't happen but i think they are more inconsistent atm than we are, in the league. Who knows how spurs will do with the upcoming fixtures. Pick up a couple of injuries, who knows? Bale's form can't go on forever either. The race for 3rd ad 4th is very much on

i had a bad feeling before the game as did a lot of other fans but up until walkers kamikaze pass, we were well in control of the 2nd half and we should've capitalised so i know we are still capable, even with injuries.

the 2nd goal let liverpool back into a game that we should've shut down. walker will get the rough end of things but defoe shouldn't be let off the hook, if he had passed instead of shooting every time, we may have got a 3rd and a top 4 finish would've been a lot more safe.

All if's and but's, didn't Spurs score from a freekick that should never of been? Gerrard winning a header and getting penalised for it.

I watched the whole game, Gerrard jumped for a header along side bale...oh no there was contact! He didn't foul him whatsoever.

Bale getting his shirt pulled for the free kick which led to the second. Notice the punch to the face... no neither do I.

Probably the softest player in the Premiership at the moment.

Personally I'd have this almost completely reversed, Bale constantly shot from stupid positions, Spurs fans bemoaned this quite rightly last year when Harry gave him the freerole, against crap teams he scored, better teams he shot from all over and constantly missed, he's looked significantly less influencial in the past two games, yeah, still goals and assists and still not bad, but less involved and less of a threat throughout.

Defoe SHOULD shoot, remember people complained that Sturridge did at Chelsea when out of position, but given the ball in better positions it both gets goals and scares the defence, causes problems.

Defoe's movement was excellent, one move he ran almost into Dembele but the entire defence went to the side Defoe was running to thinking he'd take the ball and shoot, left a great space for Dembele to shoot, but he missed. If you don't shoot, the defence don't react to you. He was fine today, brilliant, no, but good enough and far better than Adebayor.

AS for Dembele/Parker, Parker drove you forwards on more than one occasion, sometimes running the ball and once with a freaking awesome pass right between about 4 players that led to a good attack on goal. Dembele on the other hand had a few good forward drives, but also frequently passed backwards when you didn't need to, slowed down play, didn't take enough risks going forward. Neither were great, nor poor, and Dembele did some excellent defensive work but he's the more attacking of the two and HAS to push forwards more, the deeper he gets the less position you had and the less meaningful attacks with enough numbers you had. He needs to be occasionally furthers forward, running beyond strikers, coming into the box late. He's good enough offensively, just not getting forward enough for me.

Walker... lol, he can't defend, is rubbish going forward, he's just got that "he's really fast and occasionally runs forwards past several people and looks like he might do something good" thing some players do, but zero quality on the end of it. Spurs need a quality right back to be any good, how often can he be culpable before he gets replaced/dropped.

Daft game, Spurs looked comfortable at 2-1 till a combination of comedy defending let them back in it. I though Lloris was poor for the first goal, poor for the clearance that went no where, why is he trying to put that downfield, blast that for a throw in sideways and almost certainly win that game, not much he could do for the penalty obviously though you always prefer to see a keeper go the right way even if they don't save it.

It's so cute that people defend Bale over this. Instead of trying to get him to stop doing this and improve his over all game.

Football is too tribal.

Gifs and even video aren't always great, Lucas's hand definitely came down from above as opposed to coming over his shoulder from behind, its absolutely not inconceivable he accidentally brushed down his face and caught him lightly in the eye there, his hand certainly came very close to his face before coming down onto his shoulder.

Bale has been a bit of a twit in the last couple games again though, its like Suarez, he dives more when the game isn't going his way, its generally what cheaters do, though the best of them still cheat when they're winning... just less :p Two tougher games, Bale being more of a poophead.
