Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9 - 12th March 2013]

I've changed my opinion of him again now. I think he's been our best player after Suarez in 2013 and see him as a crucial player both in defense and going forward.

He looks ok most of the time but my god he's so one footed, I can't remember him being so unconfident on his right at Newcastle.

Baz probably has me on ignore but Pat Nevin is a tool, he's one name on a very long list of people that the BBC need to remove from their football coverage :).

Why would you think that? Just in case you think so, I don't dislike you Tummy. I don't even dislike cm. The only person I have on ignore is dm and that's mainly because I tend not to read his posts (I ocassionally view them) and I'd rather not have to scroll through his wall of text.

Enrique should be a top class fullback. He's quicker and stronger than near enough everybody he comes up against and his technical ability is 2nd to none too. He's ****ing braindead though. His decision making is abysmal both in attack and in defense. So many times when you want him to play it quick or burst down the line, he'll take 2 or 3 more touches and slows attacks down. He takes too many risks defensively too; he's got this obsession with trying to outmuscle attackers - he seems to want them to close him down just so he can back into them and spin them.

He can be very good but he's unreliable and I can't see him ever being consistent enough. I hope I'm wrong. He has been in decent form lately though - not nearly our 2nd best player for the season as Nevin's suggested.

edit: His link-up with Suarez is fantastic to be fair to him though. He's always looking for Suarez in behind and tends to pick him out too.
you were very fortunate we gifted you 2 goals!

thanks motd2 for reminding us what a nasty little git suarez can be with his sly kicks

Just as we gifted you 2 goals. Doesn't change the fact that we should have had 2 if not 3 more penalties. You were very fortunate.

That is honestly one of the nicest things you have ever said to me :p.

I was joking BaZ :p

Seems to be over his massive dip in form but anyone who isn't in control of his own legs shouldn't be first choice imo.

Edit: Lukaku looks like he's going to be a beast for Chelsea next season, that's if they give him the chance.

I'm not a very nice person. I was going to make a comment in the CL thread when, in a post, you claimed not to be a Utd or Madrid supporter but I thought you might have taken it personally so I refrained.

I should have known you weren't being serious, you didn't whine about anything :p

careful now, you may start to think you were the better team. we threw victory away. i can't take anything away from a team who take their opportunities when we didn't.

first loss since 9th december at everton isn't bad coupled with our recent run in. suppose it had to happen some time. the true test is how we come back from it.

oh please not with the penalties again. you do realise what a massive can of worms you open when you go on about penalties?

Why is it opening a can of worms to say that Walker fouled Coutinho and Vert fouled both Sturridge (even if he did make a pillock of himself with the exaggerated fall) and Johnson? Better officiating would have given us as many as 3 excellent opportunities to extend our lead.

better officiating would've seen gerrard booked and suarez probably sent off. plus you're assuming that you'd have converted the penalties.

we gifted you chances, you took them. i'm sure downing putting the ball between vert's legs was pure skill as opposed to a bit bonkers.

Gerrard booked for what and Suarez sent off for what? And no, I didn't assume we'd score the pens. I said we'd have had 3 excellent opportunities.

You gifted us our 2nd and 3rd, but as I said, we too gifted you your 2 goals through poor defending. And it was Downing who put the ball through Verts legs - and that's neither skill nor bonkers, you regularly see shots go through keepers or defenders legs.

The balance of play (over the 90 minutes as a whole) was fairly even but we scored more than you (gifted or not, from both sides) and should have had 3 pens too. You can't really bemoan the defeat.

Seems our GK coach won us the game :D, told Stevie where to go :D

There is no way you can compare the 2 goals we gave you and the 2 goals we scored. Both our goals were from fantastic crosses that not many teams could have defended against whereas we basically had 2 players put Liverpool shirts on and pass your guys the ball

As for the penalties, you would have been hard pushed to have seen any of those given in any match and I still maintain that Gerrard should have been booked, as should Sturridge for his dive - oh no wait, it wasn't Bale, was it?

Both your goals were from freekicks that never were. Dawson also fouled Carragher in the build up to your 2nd goal.

A less incompetent ref would have at least given the Johnson penalty.

We were better than you lot earlier in the season bet you weren't crying then. Oh and Dembele should have been shown a red card, oh no wait it wasn't Suarez, was it? :D

2 fantastic crosses? The first was a decent cross but no Liverpool defender was within 10 yards of him and then nobody challenged Vertonghen. The second was just a lump into the box (that we pathetically failed to deal with) not a fantastic cross. Neither of your goals came from excellent play - both should have been easily defended.

And hard pushed to have been awarded the other pens? Maybe the Sturridge one, which as I initially said, book him for the exaggerated reaction if you wish but his reaction doesn't change the fact that Vertonghen fouled him. I'd love to know the reasons why Walker getting wrong side of Coutinho and hauling him back and Vertonghen sliding straight through Johnson (without getting near the ball) aren't pens though.

Spurs v Liverpool was a good game, I knew we would lose, could just feel it in my stomach. I think it could have gone either way, thats football.

Interesting now to see if we capitulate like normal or can bounce back! Lennon is so important to us, completely under rated, it is not all about the final ball his runs are intelligent and open up space for Walker and he always tracks back.

Less incompetent ref would have booked "Stevie G" once if not twice ;)

As a Spurs fan, I am really impressed with Coutinho. Walker just had no clue how to cope with him (story of the season for him).

You could all argue about penalties all day long, but it's pointless. You got the pen that won you the game, leave it at that.

I would agree that Defoe needs to pass more, his greediness is getting beyond a joke now. If he looked for the pass rather than the shot all the time, we would probably be above City in 2nd by now. Bale up front with sig on the left and Holtby in the center from now on please AVB.

interesting you lot are saying Defoe needs to pass more, Bale was horrendous behind the striker and didnt bring him into play at all
