Greenlizard0 Weekend (mid-week) Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29 - 30th January 2013]

Suarez's performance from an attacking sense I have no problem with, I don't think it would have been much different had he started in Henderson's position though. My issue was the system. Suarez on the left of a 3 left us completely exposed down that side and it's no surprise that Arsenal targetted it. Rodgers recognised the issue and made the change but it was far too late.

I think, in future in games like this, when we take the lead you will see Suarez moved up top or taking off all together. Would have been perfect if Coutinho was avaliable and fit tonight, could have took off Sturridge straight after 2nd goal, moved Suarez up top, with Coutinho slotting into the Henderson role and Hendo moving to the right and downing to the left. BOOM! Would have shut Arsenal out and not losing any flair in the middle or threat up top.

It's simply complacency. Neither Coates or Carra (until now) are close to challenging either Skrtel or Agger and they've (Skrtel mainly) have become comfortable in their position.

Would agree with this, and I think it is also the reason Brendan left out Skrtel tonight, but does he stick with Carra for Sunday? Or recall Skrtel? Personally, if he is fit enough and raring to go, I would go with Carra again, he was brilliant tonight IMO.

In games like today I would never start with Suarez from the left to begin with. Play Henderson there and Suarez off the front. At home against Norwich, fine, play Suarez left and Coutinho off the front but we were too exposed and it was only down to Reina and terrible defending from Arsenal that we were 2-0 up to begin with.

As for Carra or Skrtel - providing he's up to starting again on Sunday then you've got to go with Carra again.

They will be much better than yours that's for sure. :p

Highly unlikely but keep believing that if it makes you feel better ;)

Only if you consider Reading on the same level as Arsenal ;)

Well can't be any worse than you lot eh?? ;)...still mind boggling how you lot gave up a 2 goal lead...how long has it been since you beat us last:p

Oi pingwing, remember this

Le Fondre is still useless, just a poacher who relies on defenders mistakes to get goals, the distinct lack in quality from anyone in the team pretty much means he isn't going to be effective in this league at all (then again most teams can't really set up to have a striker than only scores when the keeper just drops it onto his feet).

:D

The Arsenal Liverpool game was awesome for the neutral.

Special mentions for Giroud's misses and Sagna's slipping and then deflecting the ball past his keeper for the first goal.

Carra taking the ball in the chest and.. Not.. Going.. Down hnnnng was impressive. Walcott's ridiculous instinctive strike and Reina's wave at the ball.

Comedy defending all round.

The best part was that both teams tried to out football each other. Great stuff.

For the 20 mins Holtby was on he looked awesome. If he can take up the mantle of creative distribution for Spurs then all our other attackers will be so much more effective. Dempsey and Siggy can be one forward runners from the left/deep if Bale or Lennon are not working during a match. Ade won't need to come in deep to get involved and our wingers will have more through balls to run on to.

It is a huge mantle to take up but I hope he succeeds. Spurs could use a striker like we could use Messi. If he is better than what we have amazing but we need to work on our creativity big time. Actually playing to Ade's strengths would give us options too.

BWAHAHAHA! What a DREADFUL pass from Anderson to set everyone up for Rodriguez to get the simplest goal of all time.

:D

Haha! :D

I will stand by that right up in till he wins it for Reading against us... :p (note I haven't seen any of this evenings football till motd)

Hardly DeGea's fault. So poor from Anderson and Carrick in the build-up and so early on. Yes, he should have done better.

Annoys me how everyone jumps on him though from something that wasn't really his fault. Really hope fergie keeps the faith and Degea proves everyone wrong.

Last season? :/

How long has it been since you won a trophy? :p

Right then Southampton's goal..... personally I've seen worst back passes than Carrick's, yes it was short but not so short that it gave the keeper no chance, from De Gea's point of view though he was understandably cautious about coming out conceding a pen and getting a red card... all parties involved could have done better (including Anderson who gave the ball away in the first place)

Highlights only show so much but De Gea's confidence looks shot to pieces again (well done English media thanks for that), can see Lindegaard being brought in soon :(

Media? He's obviously got an incredible weak mentality but when his own manager was dropping him every other game last season what do you expect?

so you think there was no truth in the possibility that his team mates slaughtered him in the dressing room after the spurs game?

the media have played their part but they can't be blamed for his fragile frame and non commanding presence.
