Greta Thunberg

Latest research out recently says the western Antarctic ice shelf has passed the critical point and at this stage no matter what we do the western shelf will 100% melt off within a few decades causing global sea levels to rise 1 meter

That means we've now locked in a 1 meter rise in sea level and there is no nothing we can do to change it, we can try stopping it from rising further but the 1 meter is locked in
lols .. you always will have a rise and fall in sea level it will rise in one place and fall in another .. the sea is self regulated has been for thousands of yrs it would take a vast amount of ice loss to push it above 1mtr ..just depends how active and how long the volcanos run for ..but with them just on the west side can't see it being a problem .

Imagine after all these years of being fed nonsense and still believing it!

The main advantage is that the air and buildings are a lot cleaner. Cities used to be black before clean air acts and the smell of unburnt fuels in the streets was quite bad.

A lot more died from respiratory illnesses than today and it was not all smoking. So we don't wear hair shirts and turn everything off, we are doing quite well.

“Climate change isn’t happening fast enough for me to observe.” *angry face*
Bingo! It's always happened, it always will and we'd better just adapt. The cynical weaponise it to make money and the disaster is always an undetermined number of years in the future. When we reach that date there's a new set of believers to sell the next day of doom to. I'm still waiting for the new ice age we were sold in the 70's to arrive

That went out with flared trousers. :D

Dunno why people get so tribal over this. Yes, we've been told we're all gonna die for decades, yes it's not yet happened and yes it likely is going to happen at some point whether we accelerate the process or not.

All we can do is our own little bits to help, which let's be honest, are usually at zero cost or effort to us, and get on with life.

Common sense people, when some shouty teenager is telling us we're killing her generation tell her to stfu and think for yourselves. Enough evidence out there to disrgard all the emo tripe.

LOL wut?? More context please :)
I take it you're young? Winters were a lot colder in the 1970's despite us being in a warming period still coming out of the last ice age. There were similar predictions of doom then, except it was that we might be entering a new ice age. We don't know when the next one is but there is very likely to be one given the past cold and warm cycles. Mountain ranges are still rising after being compressed by the ice sheets. Greenland (Vineland) isn't called that because it's always been icy ;) Vineyards were in the north of England not long ago. We've had warm periods and very cold periods all independent of manmade emissions. I'm all for less pollution but the hysteria over the constantly changing climate is not helpful. As Diddums says, try to be less of a consumer, make your stuff last longer etc and everything will be fine. We're actually experiencing global greening and despite the huge increase in population we have 99% fewer people dying from climate related issues. Something like 10x as many people die from cold than heat, global cooling would be a massive problem as the majority of plant life died off.

Some background I used to audit scientists in the pharma industry. Why you may ask? Because they couldn't be trusted not to falsify the data at the behest of their paymasters, all brought about by Thalidomide. I'm interested in the science but it's not religion, the information changes all the time as we learn more and scientists are just people with all the same flaws. Apparently the moon is now 40 million years older than we thought, which of course it always was (maybe) until we knew differently ;)

Dear lord this thread is ******* depressing. Are people seriously denying climate change because we aren't 6 feet under and the earth isn't burning. We are very much seeing the early effects of climate change. We haven't been told we are going to die for decades and we aren't being told we will be dead in decades from now. Life will get worse. Food will become harder to grow. There will be more extreme weather. Sea levels will rise. Species will die off in huge numbers. Parts of the earth that are currently habitable will become uninhabitable.

Barring a catastrophic disaster humans will survive. Personally I would rather my children live in the best world possible rather than just existing.

There is almost nil reason to have an opinion on whether climate change is happening or not and whether it’s influenced by carbon emissions. You can find compelling arguments on the internet on why the earth is flat (… probably). Let the actual appointed experts advise and decide.

I can't say I've seen one "climate denier", you know the reason that phrase was used initially? To link it in with "holocaust denier", a linguistic tool to close down the debate. I only see disagreements on why and what do do or not do, the climate has always changed and we adapted. We seem to be in an era of doom and gloom mongers, bring back some optimism is what I say ;) If you really want to reduce your CO2 emissions exponentially don't have any children, I'm doing my bit  Oh and stop building on flood plains and go back to clearing fire breaks ;) Climate change is now a catch all for "we're useless/negligent at our jobs so we'll blame the climate". If you want to find negatives it can be found but there are plenty of positives too.

When they set a date for something catastrophic to happen and it doesn't they then say because we've done X, Y and Z but if we don't do A, B and C now blah blah blah. If you want to do you part and feel good about yourself then do it but I will live life as normal thanks.
