Greta Thunberg

Nail on head as far as I'm concerned.

She's sixteen, so what? There are kids younger than that who are cleverer than most adults, better at sports than most adults etc. Age has nothing to do with whether you should engage with someone or not. My son is autistic, he's incredibly bright because he focuses his attention on what interests him, so again, no reason not to listen to him. Life experience has nothing to do with climate change, so that's also an invalid argument.

They know it is, it's just an excuse to face facts.

100 years ago it would've been "she's a woman, so I won't listen to her".

60 years ago it would've been "he's black, so I won't listen to him".

They feel their position is threatened because someone younger is telling them to do things, regardless of what it is. No doubt they will say "I am not threatened!".

You might as well say you make no judgment on

1 - smoking causes cancer
2 - exercise is good for your health
3 - the earth is round

There comes to a point you just have to face the overwhelming evidence and accept the truth.

What truth are we talking about here?

The earth is warming? - agreed

It's warming because of man made causes?- in all likelihood yes (as I have already said we can't manipulate our environment to the extent we have and not expect ecological changes in the biosphere and climate systems)

The earth's temperature will rise dramatically in the next 10 years? I don't know

Vast swathes of earth will be uninhabitable within 100 years?- I don't know.

There is no technological solution and all coal powered stations must be shut immediately to prevent ecological meltdown on a planetary scale within 10 years? I'm sceptical about that.

Youthy eco vestal virgin goes on blame tirade to shame powerful decision-makers into taking faster action to prevent a seeming global environment disaster.

I also have a hint of Autism, I don't give a rats if someone is Autistic. I disagree with your statement that life experience has nothing to do with Climate change, considering she's probably got a far bigger carbon foot print than me. OK, she sailed over to the states in an expensive boat, with a low carbon foot print. How did she get back? And who is she to judge me? Has she faced life, I mean real life (I read a small Bio about her, how she had to convince her parents yadda yadda yadda - shes a realist and doesn't realise it because she's so young. I'm not saying we shouldn't tackle climate change, but getting loads of media attention because she's grumpy is not the way to do it.

Absolute poppycock, with emphasis on the ****.

:D that struck a chord!

What I said is what happened, women didn't even get to vote - hence the "don't listen to her", and blacks didn't get equality in the states until the 60's. Hence don't listen to him. And someone above just said she has no life experienceso they won't listen to her!

I love the use of the word threatened and/or intimidated that's being thrown around, it's perfect because if you feel the need to defend your opinion you must feel 'threatened'; almost as perfect as using a 16 year old girl to attack people while she is herself untouchable and beyond criticism due to her age and being a protected class, female

Yes she is effectively being martyred.

I dont like to see kids being political, it is beyond their years and shows a lack of respect for their elders. All part and parcel of todays culture unfortunately whether its preaching about climate change or hanging around on streets with no fear of the police. Its all the same problem, a lack of respect.

And I also agree there is a high chance she is being used as a puppet for larger interests. Same thing as brainwashing an IS terrorist.

This is the problem I think, people just can't get past the person, as opposed to look at the issue.

Funny how no one seems to mention it's a form of child abuse.

Personally I am fully aware of the issues at hand with climate/environment and it's a phase that will get sorted out. There isn't a need to do all of... *this. Raw education will lead to a better environment, not all these angry throws on social media, because the masses don't get educated via social media, they get riled up and then you have the SJW wave which we are seeing.

Her character and body language is that of someone who isn't genuine. I don't trust anything such people attempt to force feed regardless of their age or the topic at hand.

It's also blindingly obvious she's a strategic puppet to gain the audience she's amassed through modern means.

Maybe it's difficult to respect your elders when they still haven't really made any inroads to the pollution issue, vote in Trump as a leader, bang on about Brexit, made home-ownership a fantastical dream, etc :p

So what are you saying... You're a rebel?

A rebel without a clue! :D

But actually I am a firm believer of respect should be earned, not given. Nothing grates me quite like some jumped out git shout "You disrespecting me?!?!" as if they are deserving of respect just because they think so.
