Growing Chillies

That would work nicely. Note you may outgrow the prop quickly depending on their grow rate.

What light do you have available? Do you have a window sil that gets a good amount of light throughout the day?

I have a west facing kitchen window or an east facing living room window.

couple of questions

1/ im doing a proper water once a week, filling the tray their in with about 2cm of water with tomato feed and spraying the leaves twice a day with water/tomato feed mix, is this enough/not enough?

B/how long do they take to start flowering? i think ive had them about a month now.

1. You won't need food in the spray on the leaves. Just keep an eye on them - when they get bigger they may require two waterings a week (although food may be once).

2. I would have through they'll take a bit longer (perhaps a month or so) before you see some activity with buds appearing. It will differs between plants, species and the weather.

Looking good :)

Well as promised, photos today showing my ripening Jalapenos :D

damn you, mine aren't going well at all.

Still only two leaves and between an inch and two high. Just not enough sun. Will keep on with these. But think I might have to buy some more seeds and try again.

I'd focus on the light levels, possibly try a weak solution (ie 1/8 dose) of tomato/chilli food just in case they're not getting the right nutrients from the soil.

mine must have grown an inch over night, they are shooting up now :)

how tall do they get before they start to flower?

This depends on the variety and the plant environment. You'll see them bud first.

This bit really is up to the individual plants so I can't really say.

This looks like fun. What would u recommend a started that has not so great sun at my windows, only north ones really as i dont want south (my front windows) having stuff on them.

Something for madrass currys would be nice. And a plant that gives a lot for very little attendence.

Well you realise that once you have started you'll be eyeing up those southern windows ;)

For a good taste for indian food - Pusa Jwala. This was what I was advised for Jalfrezi (chilli, onion and tomatoes).

Ordered some japaleno seeds from ebay, well there cheap lol.

Got a tray in the sittin room that might work for seedling, and have some plastic tubs from marg that might do as cheap pots for when there bigger. Hope there easy to grow.

Think its a pack of 20 seeds. How many should i use i want about 4 plants worth growing 2 in my bedroom window, 2 in my sitting room window (south side) just hope i dont get funny looks from neighbours lol.

Btw what do ppl think of them 20 quid 4 tier greenhouse things on ebay, u reckon it might be worth getting somit like that and plonking it out the back (communial area), just hope the neighbours dont mess it up if i got one tho. Btw this mini greenhouse thingy is just a idea for much later depends how my jalapeños do on my window sills.

Also do u think cherry tomatoes would be worth a try for a complete beginner? Also fancied growing my own.

bit of a poor picture but is this a bud apearing? there are a few on other plants too.(phone cam crap at close ups)

one question, about 2 days after i water them the leaves start to droop a little, is this a sign that they need more water? i give them about 3/4 litre into the tray on a saturday with food and another 3/4 into the tray on wednesday without food.

the top soil drys out quite quick because of the amount of sun they get in my window.

Droopy leaves is a good indication that they need a little more water, I give mine a little splash most days just to keep the soil moist. They went into there final pots last night so I'm hoping for a quick groth spurt now and I'm starting the tomato food tonight to give them a boost.

A tip for growing any seedlings and plants indoors that I use, is to get a cardoard box or similar and cut it into a "stage shape", then line it with tinfoil, and put the plants (inc pots) in the box.
This will reflect light around the plant which will stop it from bending, which otherwise wastes the plants energy.

Just cooking a pizza with my first harvested Jalapenos :) Taken photos but need to find the lead to offload them.

Tasting them raw is completely different to store bought. There's a slightly sappy taste initally then the pepper and then my lips burn (even now) however there's not much heat in my mouth itself.
