Growing Chillies

Hmm not sure. They take roughly 3 months from seed to harvest. So near sep now so thats like december when they will be rdy to be picked.

I would wait to be honest.

I have a windowcill. Check my previous posts and also the social group (check quick links at the top of the forum) for us growers. For a log of my grows. If interested, it may help you. As well as other growers on here like Nick etc which are very helpful to new comers.

The wife wanted me to ask if anyone has some tips/methods for getting rid of spider mites. They seem to have infested a couple of chilli plants and are nearing the point of no return. Generic bug/mite spray apparently isn't doing the trick.
I couldn't get rid of them on my plant last year no matter what. A friend said it's because I kept it indoors and there are no predators for the spider mite inside. Sure enough, after I bunged it outside the spider mite disappeared but the plant never recovered. This year I've only grown it outdoors and apart from some pretty brave looking caterpillar bites, bet they got a right shock, the plant has been fine.

My chillie plants have only just started growing buds (planted them late), should i try and go for a quick harvest before winter or do you guys reckon it's best to cut off the buds so the plant focuses its energy on growing so it's more likely to survive the winter?

took all my chillies off now and have trimmed off all the leaves, they are starting to grow again with new leaves apearing all over :)

going to repot them at the weekend to 3 per pot instead of 2 then i have a pot for a new type :)

Do you reckon that if I do some now its not too late in the year? I have been growing them on my windowsill as I haven't a garden.

It's only going to get colder with shorter days as we enter autumn. The more artificial support they'll need in terms of heating and electric lighting.

As others have said you'd be looking at december for fruiting. I can tell you from experience that you'll need some expensive-to-run lighting to get them through it. So it's probably better to prepare and wait for next year.

I've pretty much given up hope on my Nagas. They flower - and now have pollen but don't set fruit with manual pollination. I reckon they're so inbred that they extremely overly sensitive.
Shortly (this/next week) I'll place them in the windowsill and let them go into hibernation naturally. If they make it through the winter (this place gets so so cold) it'll be a miracle.

If the plant feels cold or in need etc then it will drop the flowers so don't worry about doing that manually.
Keep going and keep them warm and out the way of draughts as these will be icy cold soon. Give them as much light as you can on the windowsill.

Update time as got my nice digi cam this morning.

My clone cherry tomato just repotted as was getting root bound. Tis in 3.5ltr pot i believe.

Here is a Scotch bonnet (i think or habenero)

Here is some jalapenos.

Here is macro shot of a jal flower.

My chillies seem to be getting on well. I have noticed that I'm getting a load of buds now on a few of my plants, on the others however the leaves seem to be getting massive and not producing buds. Maybe they are different species.....

My windowsill is getting busy...
