Growing Vegetables

That how I read the table.

I've got to move house next week so the epic moving of many pots is going to commence soon!

Also picked up two terracotta pots to transfer the herbs over from the crappy plastic ones.

I just gave the grandad a ring, and he was paying £7/yr for a church owned allotment, cant remember how many poles but it was about 20yds long (I dug it a few times!). Apparently this way, £40 isn't uncommon, so i'd guess £35 is okay depending on location and who owns it.

They are owned by the local council and the area is sort of just at the edge of town, well nxt town from mines, about 5 miles away

Just been looking at allotments in my local area.

Am i getting this right that there only £35.00 a year, that cant possibly be righ

Fife Allotments

Mine's £32 a year, so £35 sounds fair. Pretty damn good value really.

Nice sunny weekend ahead. What's everyone got planned for their veggies? I need to pick up a couple of growbags for my toms at home and there's still a bit of digging to do to make space for my cabbages, sporuts & broccoli. Plus the usual tidying and weed control.

I took some pics of the plot the other night but haven't got round to uploading them yet. Spuds are looking good, the charlottes shouldn't be too far off the first harvest. My courgettes are now in the ground and going well. I'm pretty sure that the gooseberries are ready for picking and the blackcurrants don't look far off.

Well im working this week end so going to get SFA done :(

everythings just at the stage it needs weeding and a bit of wattering now, the brocolli thats up at the house seams to have blown over after the high winds and heavy rain we have had.

Sputs are going daft along with the rhubarb

I have been busy building a 6x8 palram greenhouse to keep my toms in which is now finished :)
It has polycarb instead of glass due to my kids. I got it off a well know auction site for about £100 cheaper than anywhere else.
The tomatoes are looking a bit sorry for themselves at the mo as I had them in a mini greenhouse before, which didnt get too much light.

I will post pics soon

Im thinking about trying to get the kind of plastic polly tunnels are made of and making a mini form of greenhouse for my garden.

I've got a link somewhere Davie. Hang on a mo...

Bugger can't find it, sorry. It was a guide to DIY polytunnels and has a bunch of suppliers listed. Shouldn't be too hard to find what you're looking for with a quick google though.

Sweet lord they are masive lol, Cheers tho, I was thinking of making something that i could fit to the wall in th garden and possibly have it on hinges so i can lift it off if need be and just pop down after im finished

I have a mini one I made from plastic waste pipe stuff from B&Q and some plastic I got from a packaging printers. It's about 4x3x2ft and is held down with some threaded tent pegs. Simple enough and does the job!

I was considering something possily about 6ft high and 6 foot long in a tent / triangle shape, that could fold up at the bottom, so easily stored,

Sounds easy enough, get some wood and some plastic and make it up as you go along! The biggest problem I had wasnt with the design, but with keeping it where I want it!

I was cosidering making it from 4x2 (50x100) for the bas and maki it so the 2" (50mm) part is on the ground and the 4" (100mm) parti upwards in a rectangle shape at the bottom, and then use bamboo canes to make the uprights. and one bamboo cane between the two ends.

Did anyone watch the beech grove garden the other nite?

If you get a pair of tights and a lot of nettles, fill thm up and then soak for around a week in a small bucket of water, once ou have the dark juice plonk some in your watering can and it is apparently a great fertiliser. Dont go daft tho as it is potent stuff

Comfrey tea is easy to do.

grab a whole load of comfrey.
stick it in bucket or other container with a brick on top of the leaves. (if it has a tap at the bottom then its perfect)
fill with water
leave for 3-5 weeks (it will stink!) (if you have a lid for the bucket it helps)
dilute the comfrey tea 1 - 15 or so with water
Its very high in potash so good for tomatoes
