GS5 to launch in January

My complaint isn't because it's plastic; that's never bothered me. It's the coating they use, it's rubbish and chips/rubs off far too easily.

I agree. The only reason I've stuck with the S4 is the battery life over the IP5. The camera and sluggishness of the thing is terrible imo.

I'm done with new phones now though, I'll keep this until it's dead then get my Nokia 3210 out or something :p

This needs a battery as big as the Note 3. A 2K display is going to use A LOT of power.

I agree we don't need higher PPI screens at all - 2K is stoooopid.

2k wat.. Talk about pointless! 1080p is the Max you need IMO!

You guys realise 2K is pretty much the same as 1080p right?

It's 4K that's miles bigger, 2K is 2048x1080 rather than 1920x1080, not exactly the sort of difference that's going to decimate batteries left right and center.

+1. My 6 month old S4 looks much worse then the S3 did at 12 months. Very disappointing.

Anyway surely we would know more about the S5 now if it were to be launched next month. Would expect a June launch again.

A June launch again? The last Galaxy S phone to launch in June was the original Galaxy S, the i9000. I'd expect an April launch similar to the S4. :)

They better blow this one out the park or it's going to be a SGS4/5s all over again - good but not good enough. Screen prod starting now would indicate an earlier release though (or they expect a mod-high defect rate), maybe they will risk an earlier launch but I still find it hard to see the benefit.

I'd rather see some crazy tie up with Samsung/netflix/Spotify/Whatsapp/dropbox combining the services on the handset for a year then a 2k screen. That would shift handsets like nothing else.

I don't want a faster phone, I don't want a screen with more pixels, I don't want more memory in the phone and I certainly don't want a bigger phone.

I love how "technological progression" has just come down to increasing all of the above. My HTC One is fast as hell, screen is more than detailed enough, with enough memory and storage and a lovely chasis , design and speakers.

For my next phone, in addition to the above, I want more battery life and a higher res UltraPixel camera. I don't want a bigger phone though. I'd be happy to go back to Samsung phone but I'm afraid they'll focus on the "traditional" technological progressions and the numbers game rather than thinking outside the box

What you want in your next phone is what Samsung have been improving in each of their flagship devices over the past years, as well as faster phones with better displays, more memory and storage options. It's funny that you mention technological progression when Samsung are ahead of the game with bringing out "innovative" features yet most people don't care about these.

What's so funny about that? People were laughing at the idea of a 1080p screen on a phone and look now, everyone loves it. It will be a similar procedure with 2k aswell.

put it this way.. there was a clear difference between 720p and 1080p when looking at the thing.. between 1080p and 2k there will be nothing simply because you can't see the pixels on 5" display anyway.. on a 6+ inch screen it will be a nice addition but on 5" its all numbers game.

Someone want to explain 2k to me? The only 2k I know is ever so slightly larger resolution than 1080p...

I don't want a phone that looks nearly identical to the previous one or one made from plastic. I still think the Galaxy S2 was by far the best phone in the range. I also don't like how Samsung load their phones up with junk upon piles of more junk. My gfs Galaxy s3 is slower navigating around the menus than my own S2.

I don't want smart everything. They just went over the top with what can only be described as gimmicks that people will never ever use. Smart stay was a really good feature on the S3 then on the S4 they just went mental with all these stupid software things. Samsung don't seem to be able to release a software update without messing it up either, probably because it has all of this junk on it.

After using the Galaxy S3 it's so refreshing to use the HTC One with its simplicity and custom skin which compliments Android rather than destroying it with junk.

Samsung haven't innovated at all recently, apart from the thing on the S4 where it tracks your finger without you having to touch the screen, that's cool.

All Samsung have done is kept the same body, put faster chips in, more memory, a better camera and a better screen. Nothing at all which wasn't expected. The HTC One really did innovate and I can see why it gets a better write up than the S4. Not to mention HTC have been great with updates in the last 6 months.

All the one did was have front facing speakers. I'm not sure I'd call it really innovative. Its a great phone of course, more rounded than the s4, but its not in some uber class of its own. The fact t3 voted it phone of the year makes little difference to me.

Anyway less about the one. What's this about the s2 beingbing the best in the range? It probably had the largest lead on the competition at release if that's what you mean, but that doesn't make it the best in the range. The s4 is of course - its better than the s2 in every way bar the paint falling off :o

But, let's be frank here: Samsung are a business and better specs = more money.

I hate it too bud, but that's just how it is :).
