GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

Yes, but the point is one GT280 is as fast as an SLI solution, without any of the problems, and without needing an nVidia motherboard. And it has more memory, so if you do run high resolutions or high AA, it will work better than SLI.

Yes, it is expensive, probably too expensive, but at the high end it was never about price/performance value. This is an impressive card from a technical standpoint, the fastest ever produced. It is similar to Intel processors, the fastest ones carry a huge price premium even though they are only 10-20% faster.

WHAT U ON about 9800gx2 does not need nvidia mob

and two gt280 need a nvidia mob

psychas, is english your first language?

Don't you know lazy people like ( prolly him ) and me ? :D
We don't like writing perfect English as long as it's understandable :).

Looking forward to benchy's, but only out of interest, don't need a new card tbh.

Mate I know you post like a bit of a chimp too and I agree if a post is understandable it's fine, but psychas' posts are almost illegible, in fact some definately are. Read through the post history and you'll see. :p

It's impressive that they're actually using folding@home for benchmarks but not releasing the client, really really stupid move. That really should be high up on their list, it's an important project and if they seriously want to make money marketing with it, it must be readily available too!

Anyone seen any of the reviews mention performance of Microsoft Flight Simulator X with the 260 or 280 cards.

Never mind any of these Crysis games that stretch a PC, FSX with high detail and VFR Real scenery and detailed airports really pushes the GFX card and processor.

Taff

Probably because the 8800GTX runs it faster.* :p

*This may not be true.

Hahahaha

Oh dear, from anandtech:

"But then we have the question of whether or not you should buy one of these things. As impressive as the GT200 is, the GeForce GTX 280 is simply overpriced for the performance it delivers. It is NVIDIA's fastest single-card, single-GPU solution, but for $150 less than a GTX 280 you get a faster graphics card with NVIDIA's own GeForce 9800 GX2. The obvious downside to the GX2 over the GTX 280 is that it is a multi-GPU card and there are going to be some situations where it doesn't scale well, but overall it is a far better buy than the GTX 280."

Now I get it! The whole GTX280/260 is just a ploy to push up the price of the 9800GX2!

*Awaits the mob of justice*

Last time I said something about Psychas's posts, I got heckled by the justice mob about how I shouldn't act as the grammar police (even though I wasn't talking about grammar ;)).

I hate seeing bad English, and while I know my own English isn't perfect, I try to make sure people will understand me.

Some people just don't listen though, nearly everyone here thinks you use apostrophes for plurals, and plurals of numbers, ie, 8800's, 3870's or idea's, price's OC's OC'ed, RMA'ed. When it would actually be 8800s, 3870s or ideas, prices OCs OCed, RMAed. Funnily enough, they'll use shorthand for everything else.

When you say something about it they want to cause massive problems with you because they don't want to accept that they're wrong. :o

While I know it's different if you can actually understand, I still find it shocking that most people don't have a clue how to use an apostrophe.

I'd love to know where some people learned to use apostrophes :D.

Mate I have no problem with niggly little spelling or grammar issues, and I don't point them out as I see it as just really petty... not everyone is good at English and many haven't had the same learning opportunities others have had. It's only incomprehensible posts that bother me where I actually look at them and genuinely think: "wtf". I get the feeling you belong more to the "point out minor spelling and grammar issues" brigade, thus why people rail at you.

Anyway who cares, back to the GPU discussion!
