GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

Mate I have no problem with niggly little spelling or grammar issues, and I don't point them out as I see it as just really petty... not everyone is good at English and many haven't had the same learning opportunities others have had. It's only incomprehensible posts that bother me where I actually look at them and genuinely think: "wtf". I get the feeling you belong more to the "point out minor spelling and grammar issues" brigade, thus why people rail at you.

Anyway who cares, back to the GPU discussion!

It was Psychas specifically as I do have difficulties reading most of his posts. While I understand people may not have had the same learning opportunity, the way 90% of people use apostrophes here is terrible to the point where you know it has nothing to do with learning opportunities, but more of a 'parrot fashion' thing, if some one doesn't say anything, these people will then go around writing and spelling things in the wrong way. It's especially bad when you see so called 'professionals' doing it too, it's all over OCUK's store '8800's' and so on. So, we learn by our mistakes right? Well, no, how do we know it's a mistake if we're not told? Or make a fuss about our mistakes? People complain about petty things on here all the time, 'no, it's not 3.5Ghz, it's 3.48Ghz'. If I were insulting people people calling them names due to their mistakes, then I'd understand the hostilities, but as I don't, I don't really get the reactions.

It's because pulling people up over apostrophies is frankly a bit sad (imo).

I remember someone saying the GTX260 would be £260 before launch, coincidence? :D

Shame it doesn't share the same courtesy to the GTX 280, heh.

Oh dear, from anandtech:

"But then we have the question of whether or not you should buy one of these things. As impressive as the GT200 is, the GeForce GTX 280 is simply overpriced for the performance it delivers. It is NVIDIA's fastest single-card, single-GPU solution, but for $150 less than a GTX 280 you get a faster graphics card with NVIDIA's own GeForce 9800 GX2. The obvious downside to the GX2 over the GTX 280 is that it is a multi-GPU card and there are going to be some situations where it doesn't scale well, but overall it is a far better buy than the GTX 280."

Now I get it! The whole GTX280/260 is just a ploy to push up the price of the 9800GX2!

Don't forget you're comparing a single GPU card to a double GPU Card. I'd wait until wednesday when 3d guru is releasing the SLI and tri-SLI reviews of the GTX 200 series before making any premature judgements when comparing it to a different league ;)

I've made my decision now after today's round of reviews of GTX 260/280. I will not be buying any current gen GFX card but only the next gen ones later this year.

The 8800GT can still play all games nicely so it will serve well into the year 100% certain.

How many points do I get? I'm not settling for less than 100.

Realistically, it doesn't matter. If the dual GPUs are faster, and cost less, then only a fool would really complain about it being not fair. Fact is that you're saying "wait for the SLI reviews", you're completely forgetting the cost differences, £300 for the GX2 versus £400 for the GTX280. Getting a second GTX280 and you're looking at £800, tri SLI £1200. One GTX280 is barely affordable/justifiable to most people, never mind 3. You've got it back to front, the price determines the league of the card, so by that the GTX is in a whole other league compared to the GX2.

I'm guessing that's based on how the RV770s are though? If they're cheap but powerful, like the results on Easy's poll, most people are gonna give NV a miss.

Well, the ATI cards aren't out yet, so I would hold off the vow not to upgrade yet :)

Then I don't like reading bad English. It hurts my head.

I noticed most people going on about this, so I try writing properly, but sometimes I get too lazy and write like him too :p.

Hmmm 70-75% faster than my G92 GTS ?
Definitely not worth the cash, yet, but it's a nice boost I guess.
So erm, still not Crysis proof :D.

*Glares* :D

I hope you're joking :p.

Let's hope Crytek decide to optimise the Cryengine 2 some more before they bring Warhead out. If they optimised it more, I think more people would possibly buy it due to it running better, and in turn, Crytek can stop whining about how no one bought Crymark due to 'pirating'.

Yes mate we really should wait and see how a 9800gx2 compares to a set of graphics cards costing £450/£900 and £1350 respectively
