Why is their such a big fuss over pre-ordering games recently? Was it because Total Biscuit made some video about it, and now his sheep think he is some kind of God for magically coming up with this idea, and will follow anything he says?
Yes, I understand the fact that pre-ordering games is such as trivial thing; why not wait a couple of hours post-launch to see how a game runs, performs, etc.?
I rarely pre-order anything, never mind games, but as of late I have pre-ordered 2, maybe 3 games in the span of a month or so, said games being Grim Fandango Remastered, GTA 5, and Hotline Miami 2? Why? Well, I know that I will thoroughly enjoy these games, and I am willing to put faith, and also my wallet, to the developers of these games. Grim Fandango? Hey I love 90's adventure games, and I want to see more of them. Plus, I love Double Fine as a developer, they have released some of my favourite games (such as Psychonauts). GTA ? Well, I've already played it on PS3, and it was great then, why wouldn't I want to play it on my PC. Plus, Rockstar's PC ports have been pretty good lately, Max Payne 3 run great any pretty much any system, and I've heard that the people who did that port are doing the same one for GTA 5. Also, the budget for this game was huge, and I'm sure it required some risks, and I want to see more developers take risks, even with their latest AAA releases. Hotline Miami 2? I just loved the first one, and the second just looks like a direct improvement.
I'm personally more a fan of the whole "vote with your wallet" argument, I would (easily) much rather put down £10 to pre-order Hotline Miami 2, than I would paying £3.74 for Tomb Raider, or some other sub-par, average, run-of-the-mill AAA action game. I want to encourage developers to make more of the game I want to play by pre-ordering. It's just like shouting in their face saying "Hey! I really like this game! Take my money and make more please!".
I know my logic is probably flawed, but oh well
