GTA V

I keep banging on about this, but the "last time" they released a game on PC was Max Payne 3 and that worked flawlessly.

Not only that, but it uses an earlier DX11 iteration of the engine powering GTA V and it still looks pretty good today.

I recently played a few levels at 4k resolution and the framerate was decent.

I only got MP3 at the end of last year, was shocked at how much fun it was, I'd skipped MP2 after hearing some very hit and miss reviews for it but the third one was fantastic, one of the more enjoyable games of recent years :)

Max Payne 2 was a classic.

Had the best storyline of the 3 I thought, Mona Sax was a great character.

I've recently been tempted to load up Vice city to play through again but I know it will ruin my memory of how great the game was. The graphics will look horrendous by todays standards sadly :(

Thing is that max payne isn't on the same level of scale that gta is. I've never played it but afaik it's a corridor shooter sort of deal (not trying to put it down) which is a lot easier on a system than the massive open world of gta.

Just trying to keep the hype train under control.

Jeez why are people still going on about GTA IV

yes it was a mess but that was back in 2008 cant developers learn from their mistakes?

their last pc game is what you should judge them on runs great so i am optimistic about this one

Cause GTA IV is the direct prequel to GTA V.

We don't know whether they have learned from GTA IV.

The game we'll judge them on is GTA V. By waiting until it is reviewed by an impartial source.

This...

GTA IV was and still is a mess (in my eyes), so I'm taking all their "this runs amazing on PC!" marketing tripe with a huge bucket of salt. As they said the same about IV...

Well it's their:

"This runs amazing on PC! Here's an opportunity for us to show you some screenshots to give you an idea of how the graphics are shaping up and really put our best-foot forwards..."

** screenshots are "alright" but full of crappy looking aliasing and like an average-at-best DX9 game from 5 years ago **

"... and you can rest-assured we'll be putting just as much polish into the performance and the gameplay too!"

Why is their such a big fuss over pre-ordering games recently? Was it because Total Biscuit made some video about it, and now his sheep think he is some kind of God for magically coming up with this idea, and will follow anything he says? :D

Yes, I understand the fact that pre-ordering games is such as trivial thing; why not wait a couple of hours post-launch to see how a game runs, performs, etc.?

I rarely pre-order anything, never mind games, but as of late I have pre-ordered 2, maybe 3 games in the span of a month or so, said games being Grim Fandango Remastered, GTA 5, and Hotline Miami 2? Why? Well, I know that I will thoroughly enjoy these games, and I am willing to put faith, and also my wallet, to the developers of these games. Grim Fandango? Hey I love 90's adventure games, and I want to see more of them. Plus, I love Double Fine as a developer, they have released some of my favourite games (such as Psychonauts). GTA ? Well, I've already played it on PS3, and it was great then, why wouldn't I want to play it on my PC. Plus, Rockstar's PC ports have been pretty good lately, Max Payne 3 run great any pretty much any system, and I've heard that the people who did that port are doing the same one for GTA 5. Also, the budget for this game was huge, and I'm sure it required some risks, and I want to see more developers take risks, even with their latest AAA releases. Hotline Miami 2? I just loved the first one, and the second just looks like a direct improvement.

I'm personally more a fan of the whole "vote with your wallet" argument, I would (easily) much rather put down £10 to pre-order Hotline Miami 2, than I would paying £3.74 for Tomb Raider, or some other sub-par, average, run-of-the-mill AAA action game. I want to encourage developers to make more of the game I want to play by pre-ordering. It's just like shouting in their face saying "Hey! I really like this game! Take my money and make more please!".

I know my logic is probably flawed, but oh well :D

It was flawed the moment you said Tomb Raider was sub par at less than £4.

Everything else you said is now a blur lol.

Tbh people can do as they please it's not the business of anybody else. That said preordering in a digital age is rather odd and has nothing to do with total biscuit. A guy who grates on me like no other.

It's all each to their own, pre order or don't pre order, it does no harm to anyone else.

PRE-ORDER NOW AND GET THE FANTASTIC

"ALREADY COMPLETED FOR YOU EDITION"

- YOU LITERALLY WON'T HAVE TO BE CHALLENGED OR EXPEND ANY EFFORT AT ALL!!!

OR WHY NOT CHOOSE THE

"INTERCHANGEABLE DOES-NOTHING SKIN EDITION"?

- ONE OF OUR ARTISTS SPENT A WHOLE FIVE-MINUTES PASTING A DIFFERENT TEXTURE ON SOMETHING AND IT CAN BE YOURS AND NO ONE ELSE WILL HAVE IT!!!

(Just don't wait for reviews or impressions, whatever you do)

I want the version that's just a DVD of someone else playing it

Yes and no.

By pre-ordering the base game as well as purchasing season passes and DLC a person is supporting the development and marketing strategies of the current crop of devs/pubs which facilitates the perpetual release of unoriginal, safe (in terms of concept), badly made, badly optimised, sub-par games and thus damaging their overall gaming experience in the long run.

But obviously I won't magically get a broken arm if a person pre-orders GTAV :p

We're not talking about pre-ordering season passes and DLC, just the base game.

I look forward to you buying on release day and throwing caution to the wind :p

I will buy on release day, possibly even before for preloading, if I know the port is decent. Just a few 3rd parties with evidence that it isn't awful will do. Things like totalbiscuit's port report and digitalfoundry's videos and articles will suffice.

Im keeping my fingers crossed for this one. I don't want to judge rockstar based on any other opinion but my own and the reason for this is because I have never played GTA IV on the pc. I have read good reviews/bad reviews in terms of performance and game play and I'm sure rockstar had a good amount of complaints thrown at them so hopfully GTA V will be a more polished experience - hence the delays.
