GTA4-yet another good looking Gfx mod!

I just tried a few vehicle mods too, these things look incredible.

You have to use a program called SparkIV which allows you to edit the vehicles in the vehicles.iso model folder. I found a nice tutorial, very simple.

Does anyone recommend full car replacement packs? Preferably non buggy, I've just tried an Evo V and it flipped over everytime you took a corner.
 
I'm having issues trying to installed the 1040 update. I keep getting the message that Rockstar Games Social Club isn't detected and that I need to install it. Anyone got any ideas ?

This is for steam verison btw.

EDIT: NM it turns out if you launch the game from steam it'll fix all relevant registry entries for you

Use Spark IV for older versions of GTA IV, Open IV for 1.0.7 (it's the only one being update and it's better than Spark IV IMO).

I strongly advise against installing any car packs. Do it one by one.

Also remember that the game always looks better on lower resolution screenshots as they might be downscaled using supersampling, effectively adding AA to the picture.

Not tried it yet. Does anyone know of any other good mods? So far I just have ICEnhancer, and fonias road texture pack. I wouldn't mind getting the 7gb texture pack but thats a big download.

Just tried that car pack and I'm not a fan. They look ok but some of them handle like they are driving on icy glass.

I think I'm going t give up on trying to mod GTA as I think my graphics card just isn't powerful enough. I can't even smoothly run the game on max native settings and adding some of these extra things just make it worse.

Currently have a road texture mod, the 7GB texture pack and a car pack installed and my 5770 is maxed out. This is with most setting on High.

You can change handling with the Realistic Driving EFLC 1.2.

As long as you like the models, you're good to go.

I always disliked some cars in the pack so it was no good to me.

I'll try OpenIV later today. SparkIV seemed to copy over the cars, but out of 15 cars I only found 4. I just put that down to not being in the areas where a Turismo or SuperGT would appear. There was a little bug that appeared with the Shelby Cobra, once I found one they just kept appear g everywhere. No idea if that was down to SparkIV since that just seemed to replace the model cars for all I know.

That is one excellent list of cars Marc! Ill just back up my originals and give that a tru, its too tempting! I can understand why you wouldn't want to replace an entire car pack. There are two files you replace, .wft and .wdf, is one just the model and the other driving characteristics? If so, we could just replace the models and keep the driving characteristics as original. Then you wouldn't have the buggy ice feel or easy flips.

Some times you have to change the handling as well or the cars just don't work very well. I manually changed the police car to a 200SX model and the slightest corner would turn it over with the default handling file.

Think I'll go back to manually changing the models and handling values per car. Only issue with this seems to be that most folks like to replace the same models so its hard to find replacements for every car.
 
.wtd and .wtf are within the vehicles.img file, and define the 3d mesh, and the textures.

Handling characteristics are within the handling.dat file
 
Well thats my install screwed up! Time to re-download it. This time I'm going to take a proper backup and keep it safe somewhere. I made the mistake of fiddling round with my backup as well to try a few things out.
 
Downloading that cars pack - will see which ones are there that I've not already updated to others :)

Have also downloaded the complete 4.5gb of the texture pack (7.6gb extracted!)
 
Keep us updated! and yes I always have a backuped copy of my GTAIV if im messing around! Why would you mess with the backed up copy!?!?!? completely defies the point
 
Unfortunately I'm running it via Steam (I did find my retail disks, but I've not got a DVD drive in my PC, only in my server, and SecuROM didn't seem to like it :() so I'm currently on 1.0.7.0 - will try that trick on it to get it running at 1.0.4.0

I had the real life car pack but it crashed every time after driving for a few mins :( Just don't know why but looked the nuts with a dodge viper to hand :D

I was trying to restore my main copy to the old settings but ended up copying files around in the wrong place. Only 2 hours left to go on my steam download :/
