GTAV performance thread.

Been playing this for a while now, my system handles it fine, but maxing out enhanced view distance really wreaks my fps, which is a shame as it does make a big difference to the look of the game.

The new patch yesterday seems to have brought back some of the performance I lost in the previous patch. Still not as smooth as a couple of patches ago though :(

Deffo better than the last patch..

So after the last small patch everyone were claiming that it was realy smooth! well have these people played it for longer now online and tried missions, gang attacks etc?
As for me these turn into a slideshow sometimes, its all very well Rockstar making the free roam mode when you join online smooth but what about the actual main parts of online. Rockstar do you even test!

Just noticed this myself, had a very quick play on Tuesday after the patch and it was smooth again driving round the city but just now had a 45 minute police chase round the whole island and I noticed whilst trying to shoot 3 choppers down up in the mountain area it slowed down to a crawl. The 3 or 4 missions I did before though were fine.

They know there are still massive issues. My performance is awful now after the hot fix.......

7/22/15 Update: We have received a small number of reports from players who are still experiencing occasional framerate issues or stuttering following 1.28.01, and are continuing to investigate. Please stay tuned to this page for more information as soon as it is available.

Get annoyed with this, still getting random fps drops, artifacts using Msaa, i've turned off Msaa completely to try and combat it all, fps have gone up but still getting drops for no reason.

Wait for another patch mate.. Some reason rockstar have really messed things up.. I completed the game with my settings locked 60fps now when I try play I also getting stutter..

After a very successful release a stunning running game on release, they now went and ruined it with fast patching DLC without any testing it would seem.

Still can't play using Xfire on mine - it's about 10fps and gpu utilisaton is 30%.
BF4 runs fine at like 120fps so it's just this game!
Weirdly the intro sequence in the snow plays fine, it's just as soon as you get into the city it's unplayable!

I also get that frame rate drop bug even with the latest update. It mainly happens if I ALT Tab out and back, but it can do it when playing but it's very rare if I just stay in the game thankfully.

Playing at 3325x1871 (can play at 4K but it can dip under 60fps which is annoying on this game) with all settings maxed out except for AA which I'm using FXAA. I can play at a constant 60fps almost everywhere I go, both 980 Ti's running between 55% load on both to 95% load on both depending on the area.

Then for no apparent reason the frame rate will plummet to 8fps to 12fps, while keeping a 85 to 90% load on both GPU's. This never happens in single player, only online.

The only way to fix this is to quit the game completely and start it again. I have had this bug on various nvidia drivers, on Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10.

I actually completed an online mission that started fine at 60fps then 75% of the way through it dropped to 12fps, did the mission though. Playing GTA at 12fps now that's hard :)

Game is horribly CPU limited went from SLI 980s @ 1550 to SLI 980 Ti's @ 1455 and the average framerate seems the same @ 1440p

only difference is GPU utiliastion went from 99% on the 980s to 75% ish on the 980 Ti's

if a game needed DX12 more than anything its this one

GTA V looks lovely at 4K. :)

Does anyone else prefer the look of sharp shadows to everything else? I think they look better, perhaps less realistic, than all the other Rockstar options.

I didn't know the Shadows had that much of an affect, had them on the AMD CHS, changed em to Soft, and i gained a fair few frames, im mostly above 50fps now, sometimes going over 60, and i can't tell a difference :D

Sharp ftw, costs marginally less video memory too. Shadows look very defined and er, sharp. Might not be realistic, but looks so much better than a blurry shadow. :) (imo)

That looks lovely matt , any daytime shots ?

Thanks dude.

No, but i will take some tomorrow and update. :)

These are my settings :-
