GTX 1060

I think the partner card price of £239 per the above is fine for the UK. The £200-£250 mark is looking like an interesting battle for GPUs
£199 is really the sweet spot they should be at...
But that most likely that not going to happen with how crazy GPU prices are now....:(

Are these new GTX 1060 being aimed for replacing the GTX 960 ? (As the 4GB 960 cost around £160 to £180 )

Bascially, if you're a gamer, a GPU is not a luxury item. It's an essential.

...I know a fair few of those people and they most certainly are not happy and would absolutely buy a GPU if they had the money. Due to 480 prices, one of those folks is looking to the 470, in the hopes that it will be in their budget.

Remember that we enthusiasts are a minority of the Pc gaming scene, their are loads that play games that don't even know that you can put a graphics card in a PC to improve games.

Those people you mention, that are certainly not happy, are clearly not the same ones that, as I say are happy using a APU.

The original statement by foxeye, is just wrong, a GPU is a luxury item and it is most definitely not essential (absolutely necessary)

Many not happy with Nvidias pricing on the 1060 and most not confident that large quantities will be available on 19th. Surely Gibbo would have stocks already in or just about to drop?

Seems clever what Nvidia are doing to have another paper launch to disrupt the competitions sales but still come in at a higher price with "better than" advertising.
Yet at the same time knowing in some cases people will purchase clearance stocks on outgoing models...

Looking at Nvidia:

Sub £300 best perf = 980 AIB model with good overclocking reduced to clear
£300+ under £400 best perf = 980TI AIB model with excellent overclocking reduced to clear

Those wanting latest features and newest models
With possibly less perf in some cases

Sub £300 best perf = 1060 AIB model with perf @ stock 980 performance
£400+ best perf = 1070 AIB model with perf similar/below 980ti

Depends how you define a "PC gamer".

I would define that as someone who plays the kind of games you would find on a current-gen console, but instead plays them on a PC.

I'm specifically excluding people who only play browser or phone games. Yup, those people don't need a GPU.

When I say "PC gamer", however, I'm thinking about people who play Doom, Crysis, CoD, etc, etc, etc. Stuff that needs some manner of 3D acceleration.

Let's not kid ourselves, an APU has never cut it for those kinds of games.

Doesn't matter about the pricing, as they will still fly off the shelves, and drop AMDs 480 sales like a stone.

I really hope AMD have raked in a good amount of sales in the couple of weeks they've had.

The 1060 doesn't wow me, but the problem is the high premium attached the 8GB version of the 480 makes the 1060 seem better value than it actually is.

The 4GB 480 is really the best upper mid-range option and entry point for 1440p gaming, the 1070 being the best high end option (and entry point for 4K).

Hopefully a price war will eventually break out.
