GTX 1070 - any takers?

This was what I expected TBH. The prices people were hoping for would have decimated the 970/980/980Ti new and used prices alike. Especially the Ti, which will now drop but if these cards had come in at low 300's, it would have been very bad business for them. Nvidia weren't going to let that happen.

Bring on the £800 1080Ti next! £1K HBM2 card after that.

If the 480X comes in at around £200, XFire x2 of those looks quite tempting now!

It won't come in at £200.

There is going to be 4gb and 8gb versions of the rx480, and i can see the 8gb versions costing what the 970's cost now, about £250-£280.

Hope i'm wrong . . . . but i wasn't wrong about the 1070.

Absolutely insane price and so not worth it. Just found a listing on a danish retailer for an insane amount of 480 pounds.. WTF.!!! are they sniffing acid or something?`

Well my plans for SLI 1070 just went out the window.. i do have the money for it but its not worth it at that price. Suddenly RX480(or 490 if it even exist) crossfire 2 or 3 way looks a lot more interesting

**** off nvidia, and that's the first time I've really felt that way about the green team, been supporting nvidia for the best part of 15 years but they are taking the pee now, really hope the 480 is a runaway success, I'll be buying one for my secondary machine and I don't even really need it.

Ha, I felt that way after the GTX 970 memory thing, and the ceo non apology.

At least this time your getting a full '8GB'. It's just Nvidia are charging twice the price for it :p

My 970 G1 was £330 at release, I'll not be paying over £400. What were they thinking

I bought my 780 GHz edition for a touch under £400 - 50+% faster than the 680, a clean double the performance of the 580. Not even the 1080 has anything like those gains over the previous generation.

nVidia and intel both getting greedy and returning to old ways, sliding prices up with every new release; We really need AMD to get their heads out of their backsides and make competitive products.

It's funny when the cheapest non-FE 1080 card is looking like the price/performance card. Imagine your highest end being the price/performance winner. Nvidia that.

proove it by cropping all but prices so its not recognisable and doesnt show competition

LOL no thanks , I have 2 Infractions active at the moment thanks to the Members Market strange rules (also 1 other one that was not my fault) and a 3rd strike means I'm out .. so I would rather not take the chance... also this is a company that is a retailer that is allowing us free access on a forum they created. So I have a bit of respect not to do that too.

Hi all, been reading the threads a lot recently for news and info about the cards and just want to say thanks for what's been posted, some really useful videos and information!

Anyway, just wanted to comment about these prices if they end up being true. If they are, then as others have said, waiting it out is the only option really and not buy into it and hopefully NV and the retailers will know they can't get away with it. Unless mid 100s is pocket change to some then it probably doesn't matter to them.

The thing is, the MSRP is going to have an element of profit built into it for both parties anyway, so even if you're adding 20 quid on top of that and vat, then OK but to be adding nearly 100, that's just completely taking advantage. I do wonder if NV know full well there'll be a price drop, so they are using 1 month, 2 months just to rinse these type of people for as much as possible. I've got the itch at the moment as I have a 780 and really want an upgrade now, cause I wanna blast my settings up and get 60fps on some games for maximum enjoyment, but this is just insane, I'm sure most are in the same boat.

Otherwise if these are gonna be standard prices, they are pricing themselves out of the market and PC's as a hobby will become very eliteist. You look at sport, especially rugby here in Wales and the regions are getting pretty poor attendances, but if they halve the prices to say £10-15, they'd pack the stadium out. Sad really if this is how it all ends up.
