GTX 1070 - any takers?

Blimey, people making an issue where one as of yet has not been proven to exist, just because a previous card with the same 70 identifier wasn't quite optimal but getting that wrong too as think there's no way to stop random access to the slower memory.

970 was still a good card regardless

If the 1070 eventually drops to 970 prices it'll be a great option. I suppose it is now but the way Nvidia have increased prices leaves a bitter taste.

Having said that I was wrong regarding the 1080 models as we are seeing decent aftermarket models that cost less than the Founders 1080 so if that holds true to the 1070 it looks like it offers TX performance for roughly half the TX's price and that's a good thing.

One thing I learned is ill get a 1070 early because as the supply gets lower the gougers find their excuses to be cheeky. It's actually cheaper to get a 10 series card in sweden than in the UK. I think that is bloody strange

I only tend to play simulation games so nothing too intensive. I currently have a 970 - Im not getting a 1080 - as the 1070 looked a good option. But im now thinking that 970 prices will drop a lot so why not go 2 x 970 in SLI?? Or is the 1070 still a better option? I just dont know what to do... :(

Looks like the 1070 is going to be THEE 1440p card.

Alas...the 1080 still can't handle 4K comfortably in new games....so where does that leave the 1080??

If you play at 1440p then the 1070 is the card for you. Play at 4k then the 1080 isn't good enough.

Interesting, specs this is more or less what I had hoped for (so far at least, wait on real world user comments on here). But the price will be the issue, sub £325 then maybe above this not really. I will be moving from a GTS8600 so a fair leap in this situation. Currently looking at second hand 980 / 980ti for around 299 / 399. If the 1070 price was to drive down second hand 980ti prices then this may be a better option. Currently one monitor at 1080p but looking to get a second monitor possibly 4k for Lightroom work. Now own Crysis and nearly have the system to play it (4970k waiting to go in) :-) .

Where does it leave 1080?

in no man's land...just like 980 was
for 4k 1080 is just about acceptable now...which means it won't be tomorrow.
1080ti is going to be 4k card I think

My gosh the same people who would complain about the 970 having 3.5GB for £250 seem to be also salty that a full 8GB 1070 is £100 more. Can't it both ways imo. Cheap and broken or a proper card for more dough.

Wil pick one of these up, 980ti performance (or better) without the heat or power consumption and ongoing better driver support!

Or a £200 ti ;)

From the reviews I have seen it's basically the same as a stock 980ti. It would be nice to see overclocked vs overclocked but overall for £400 it seems decent but not spectacular.

We will see if there are cards after the FE that are lower than that though, it might be worth a punt.

1070 is a good upgrade for GTX 970 / R9 390 owners

1080 is a good upgrade for GTX 980 / Nano / Fury owners.

Anyone on a 980 Ti or Titan X might as wait for a real upgrade. Only the compulsion to buy the latest thing will drive them. There's no hope for those guys anyway :P (Me included lol)

Well I think its time to try sli with the 1070 ...Iv'e avoided it long enough. If its crap I''ll return one card and just keep the 980ti cough I mean 1070 until full fat pascal.

If I needed a card now a 1070 looks a good option for the money. Assuming you don't want to drive more than 1440p before your next upgrade. I think I'll have to wait for the full fat cards as my 2x 7970 GHz still max out on my 60Hz monitor (assuming XF support). I want a single card solution that's cooler quieter and can do 4k should I upgrade my monitor be that a 1080ti or Vega.
