GTX 1070 - any takers?

Whelp, that £310 Palit 980Ti didn't last long, 9 days to be precise. Display cut off during Overwatch last night and now its completely dead, no fans spinning, lights, display output, nothing.

EVGA 1070 FE ordered, feeling rather violated but need something to power the Vive and don't want to wait weeks for the RMA

you sure you did not put a screwdriver to the card ? :P

I wouldn't be feeling so peeved off if I had, at least there would have been some anger relief :D

Just need to get the 980Ti back before the prices drop again. At least the 1070 will be better for VR which is the rigs main purpose.

£420 is still £70 more than I had wanted to pay, nevermind the fact I've actually spent £730 between the two cards. Better not tell the wife :o

That's a good point about the warranty, I haven't been looking at the length of warranty on each card. I could easily keep it for 4 years so a longer warranty could be very useful.

grab a zotac FE 399

- 5 years warranty

- FE cooler

- backplate

- possibly better components used than KFA?

- or grab one of their amp cards 389-409 same warranty etc and probably what your after in terms of better cooling

:p

hmm good to know it's a 5 year guarantee on Zotac cards. It will definitely affect my next purchase. I still have a factory OC Zotac bought in January 2008, that bad boy is still running like a champ in an older machine :)

Ocuk pritty shoking on tge founder's edition pricing compared to the competition.

Had a kfa2 on pre order then the date changed so cancelled, will just wait abd see what comes in stock first now.

I to really wanted to upgrade from my gtx970 but refuse this price out of principle. I waste enough money each month on silly activities to cover a GTX1080. The GTX970 will have to last me longer but in all honesty does a fine job.

Just really wish AMD one day come out of the Blue & gave nvidia a serious crippling blow to teach them a lesson. Like many, this card should be replacing the GTX970 & priced £270-£300 area. But its up to you if you buy one. Vote with the wallet.

Its becoming summer, screw games, go outside :)

unfortunately it doesn't look like AMD can do anything about it.

Nvidia is more than likely hard at work on the next generation of cards while AMD still try to come up with something which can't even challenge Nvidia's top cards. Sad state of affairs, really.

This states that we should see a 1080/1070 prices drop a little in the not too distant future:

yes it is pretty obvious. I am going to wait til July when AMD's stuff is out and more stock is available and see how the land lies then.

That article raises an interesting point about the 1070 though. I am surprised there isnt more stock as well considering they are probably salvaged/failed 1080's and they use standard GDDR5.
