GTX 780 Owners Club

finally got round to installing my GTX 780 Classified and one of the fans is... iffy.

Sounds like a bad ball bearing >: (

It is fine when the fan is at 57% and higher, but anything below that is really annoying
Have a read here http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1978902

There seems to lots of owners with problems with the evga coolers suffering from rattles from loose heatsink fins or fans......:(

I can testify to that, the fans on my twin frozr 580's are like jets on take off. One of the reasons i avoided msi this time round, that and the other issues i have had with msi fans.

I have an Asus Direct CUII 7950 which, when my system was idle, was the only thing that could be heard. It wasn't an unpleasant sound by any means, and under load it never bothered me at all :)

I have an Twin Frozr 780 coming from the store sometime this week hopefully, so I'll update with my experiences.

The TwinForzr 4 cooler is very silent (compared to TwinFrozr III) ! I can't hear it at all on my TwinFrozr Gaming OC in idle or in load...
But for that matter the reference cooler is almost as silent .. it's the best radial blower style cooler ever made IMO.

Final question for you lot before I hit buy, is it worth buying the Ghz edition of the Windforce when I plan to overclock both as much as I can anyway? is it a newer stepping, better anything else? or not worth the £40 increase in price? thank you :)

The Ghz is a B1 stepping, but apparently other cards have been using this revision already.

For a comparison, I've had my Rev2 Windforce to 1254 / 7212. Wont go any further though without an unlocked bios for more vcore.

You might get an extra 50-100mhz out of the Ggz edition?

The backplate is nice though...:)

Well thats two completely differing opinions in the space of a post of each other, that doesnt help me at all! :( haha

Unless you're going to be heavily benching I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Most 780's seem to clock within 100mhz of one another, which on the grand scheme of things is only around 8% higher / lower fps. Not exactly a deal breaker.

And if you were into benching, then the MSI Lightning, EVGA Classified and KFA2 HOF would probably be better choices as they have improved power circuitry.
