Guild Wars 2

Just hitting everyone's targets once isn't going to give me aggro.

That is funny, simply being in the area of a monster in GW gives you aggro. Even if someone else is hitting it, they still attack any party member and lock onto them regardless of who is hitting them.

Otherwise healing would be far too easy.

I'll wait and see what other people say about it because I have no idea how this is going to work out in the game.

Oh. So the mobs don't target the person who has the most aggro? They just target anyone randomly? I didn't realise that, I just thought , like most mmos, that a mob targets the person who has the highest aggro (be it via damage inflicted or healing)

If you hit stuff once you will get little or no reward. The amount of XP and loot you get is based on how much you contribute.

Oh no, this game actually has AI. It tends to prioritize targetting whoever has the lowest HP and / or armor first, so getting aggro as a warrior simply doesnt work in this game, hence no tanking.

Warriors normally have to cripple / knockdown enemies to keep them away from casters, and also to keep on damaging them without having the enemy run away.

Ah so that answers my initial question on whether it was based on damage amount. Good good.

Well all mmos have AI :) if I was a mob I'd target the person with the best healing first as that's the best chance to keep others alive (hence mmos where the mobs build aggro based on healing damage too)

Changing server isn't much of a solution, forcing someone to go play on a different server because someone is leeching off them is a poor solution when you could just have a tagging system. That's like punishing the victim instead of preventing the crime in the first place.

I know, that was a dumb idea from me, remember that I dont actually know how the game will work.

Whacking and tagging wont actually bother you in anyway:

Whacking and tagging possibly still works if you deal the killing blow to the mobs but since loot and XP is distributed on an individual basis, people who whack and tag won't really bother you in any way. You'd still get 100% of the loot and XP you would if you had killed the mob yourself.

Better to discuss this stuff on the GW2 forums as people there are even more fanatical than I am and have been following this game a lot more.

If people come along and hit your mobs, you can pretty much just ignore them. Even if they only hit it once, thats one less hit you have to deal yourself and you still get full loot and EXP, but they would get hardly nothing.

So the system actually encourages people to help each other.

Well whacking wouldn't bother me in the slightest as I come from a UO background so I'm used to it and much much worse :)

God no, I couldn't last more than an hour on the gw2 forums. I cant bear people who fawn that much over a game like its got the solution to world poverty and cancer. (unless its UO or Daoc, which I will happily listen to fawn over almost indefinitely :D )

I don't need loot or xp to encourage me to help others, if I see someone in trouble I will always stop to help them out, I don't need a reward to do so.

(unless of course they are an enemy player, at which point I will always stop to kill them :) )

Yea thats how it works in GW2, it is a fully persistent world with players playing alongside one another, but you dont actually have to group up in advance, or take any quests to play the game. You simply wander around the game world, and all the action, quests, and teamwork comes to you :)

OFC you can also group up in advance if you want to, but this game is trying to completely do away wit the waiting to form a group aspect. You simply play whatever you want, and people will be around in your environment to interact with. If there isnt anyone around and you are alone, then enemies get scaled down to compensate to make it possible to play solo.

Kind of UO like , in that you just wander around not pick up quests and go to location A. Although of course in UO you didn't have groups and nothing scaled down to compensate and occasionally when you met someone in your environment they either stole something from your backpack or killed you and took all your gear off your corpse :D

I managed to pick up the complete set for £10 2 years ago. Was shocked when I saw it going for £20-30 recently.

Just hit 8 in HoM :p Still got a long way to go but I've got enough time.

Anyone know price check for B-Day presents; 2nd B-day, 3rd B-day and 4th B-day

Didn't realise level cap was 80.
Please tell me it won't take asking as WoW, loved getting to 20 in GW fast then doing whatever I felt like.

Check GW guru, though i wouldn't be surprised if they're very out of date.

Upto 27 minipets now. Got some more to add but they're all on my alt account...

Might be worth checking out how to get 2 instances of GW open...

Yeah I'm not sure i like that they've gone for lvl80 grinding either. Then again you'd always get plenty of morons who dismissed GW purely because max level was 20 and that they could reach 80+ in WoW
