Guild Wars 2

This may sound ridiculous but probably the only thing which would make me more optimistic about this game would be a subscription fee. Not that money isn't an object for me or anything, but I've never been able to stick with any F2P MMO, nor the original Guild Wars, simply because I felt the production quality or wealth of things to do paled in comparison to P2P. Also, subscription fees would guarantee greater resources for ArenaNet to continue improving and innovating. Not that it guarantees the game will be good or anything, but it just seems to fill me with more confidence that the game will be run correctly.

Without the subscription fee I still have slight doubts about whether the game will be able to compete on all fronts with leading MMO games. Of course I hope to be proven wrong, as this game appears to be doing everything right at the moment. Meh, if it doesn't live up to my hopes at least I've only spent thirty quid.

They release really expensive dlc's though that's where they get the income.

Thats your opinion, but GW1 has almost sold 7 million copies now and is the second biggest MMO after WoW. Its success is PURELY based on the fact that the game is FTP, and in fact the single best FTP game out there.

What money other games make from fees arena net make though expansions and selling visual makeovers.

Arenanet have stated time and time again that they do not need fees to support GW1 or GW2, and GW1 is evidence of this.

The reason why you didnt like GW1 has nothing to do with it being FTP, you simply didnt like the game. Games dont need to charge fees at all to have the same production quality as FTP games, and IMO GW1 had far superior quality than any P2P MMO on the market including WoW.

I dont understand why people are fans of the P2P model, it really doesnt make the game any better, it just makes the developers uber rich and they dont support or update the game any better than a free one can be.

Without the subscription fee I still have slight doubts about whether the game will be able to compete on all fronts with leading MMO games.

Well if GW2 does any better than GW1 did, that will still put it in the second place in terms of sales / competition compared to other leading MMOs .... Which are pretty much only WoW and GW1. No other P2P MMO has even come close to the sale figures of WoW and GW1.

GW1 isnt as unsuccessful or minor as P2P fans like to think it must be just because its a FTP game.

Will this also be open world? Wasn't Guild Wars 1 some sort of instanced game where you invite friends to co-op and lvl up with etc?

I really have no clue, so sorry if i am being annoying. But if this game is open world like a normal mmo then i am very interested in it.

It is open world.

This game looks amazing, I just really hope it runs well in mass WvWvW, Because if you get 1fps in massive fights that will be a massive turn off.

Nice HD quality footage dev walkthrough from Gamescom

Just embedding it for anyone that didnt click, this has the be by far the best demo of the game so far, and its in HD and showing the gorgeous graphics and unbelievable gameplay.

Is there a estimated release date for it? Btw nice link, looks so good.

Theres been an estimated date purely based on fan speculation of either end 2011, or early 2012.

I doubt it will be released this year though, I think that around March - May 2012 is much more likely.

I MUST HAVE ONE OF THOSE OMG !!!!

I completely echo this tbh. My #1 concern for GW2 even above it being unbalanced or devoid of content is having a horrible connection to the servers.

My connection atm is 30Mb and i'm used to hitting 20-30ms to WoW Eu servers. After playing GW1 again with 150-300ms concern is the only thing i can express.

Yeah I have to agree, the Asuran and Charr animations are mind blowing imo.

That Totalbiscuit video is awesome! I think game in it's current state is better than the vast majority of current games out now.

I'd be more than happy for Anet to release the game as it stands, and let them fix the bugs as we play! I need to play this game now :(
