Guild Wars 2

Something I'm yet to encounter - what are their guilds going to be like? Just standard MMO fare? Will you have guild quests / perks / objectives / bonuses for PvP standings?

Given that the title is Guild Wars, can we assume that there will at least be some form of PvP system between guilds? If not... why the hell not?

I know much of what guilds do or don't do in MMOs is simply up to that particular guild (for instance, you could have organized guild groups going to wreck the RvRvR zone), but it would be neat if you can actually be at war with particular guilds and engage in open world pvp with any of their members at any time.

Structured PVP is Guild vs Guild. There are no other bonuses for being in a guild other than having a large active Guild and Alliance to have people to chat to or group up with in PVE.

GW1 initially had some huge cash prizes to be won in GVG. TBH though if you never played the first, which you cant have to ask that question, you would be better advised to completely avoid structured GVG combat as it is full of an insane level of 'rank discrimination' and newbie abuse by people who will simply kick you and add you to their blacklist if they think you are the reason why they didnt win.

Ranked GVG in GW is very hardcore stuff full of the biggest pricks you will ever come across in any online game. If all you want to do is fight other players for fun, then the WvWvW system in GW2 will be better suited to you. I know that I am going to give the structured PVP a complete miss, even after playing it hardcore for almost 2 years straight in GW1 (I completely quit GW structured PVP a few years back and only do the casual random arenas now. WvWvW in GW2 will be awesome for people who want to PVP for fun without the elitist idiots trying to win the tournaments).

They have mentioned guild story lines and that there WILL be a way for a guild to define itself within the world (and i dont meant PvP leaderboards)

What bugs me so much is these gamescon vids where they have Q&A and some absolute spastic asks things like "who would win in a fight, a norn or a char" i mean really, this is your chance to ask the developers of the game face to face about some important features and aspects of their upcomming title... If i had been there i would have jumped up and broken his nose! anyways sorry that bugged me.

yay for GW2!

Honestly, the Guardian's hammer really impressed me this time. Really looks fun, attacks look...meaty and visceral.

Tequququququququququatol the dragon has the same concerns as the Shatterer for me, in that he only seems to have 4 attacks and low difficulty. Also objectives are similar.

Game is shaping up to be really good. :)

I hate the game

Why? Its not even released yet.

Monsters in GW1 / GW2 use the same skill system that players do, but in some cases like bosses and dragons they have monster specific skills. They are however still bound to the 8 (in GW) and 10 (in GW2) skill limitation to keep the battles balanced.
