Guild Wars 2

Thought GW 1 for what it was , succeeded brilliantly, we as a guild ( The Immortals) will definitely be playing it :)

Guild wars 2 will be nothing like 1 except for a for same factions ( and some new ones)

got to have a char toon :) ..and Yes I played one for a longish time!

Actually no, they have said in the past that they want it optimized for all hardware, so much so that they were ordering old graphics cards off Ebay just to test it out.

They know the key to WoW's success was that it can run on a hamster wheel, expect to be able to play GW2 on anything current.

Isn't active dodging one of the key new features, meaning movement purely by mouse will hamper the player?

Surely that can be mapped to mouse somehow, or just have a button combo for it.

TBH it's more the camera angle than anything else. If its too close and moves with the character then the Mrs gets motion sickness from it. If it can be zoomed out and fixed (rotated at will) then she's fine.

If keys have to be used for movement, she'll get over it, it's the camera that's important.

I'm pretty sure click-to-move is gone, as they're trying to make the movement more attractive - dodge rolling, jumping etc.

It would really blow my mind if you couldn't zoom out though, that will be an option, surely.

I guess a laptop with just Intel 3000HD is out of the question then...

Not for min settings. Arenanet stated a long time ago that the game would max out on mid range hardware. Being a DX10 based game I'd take that as meaning 4850-4870, or a 5770 as a much more accurate prediction.

for minimum settings it will probably scale all the way back to X1600 XT / 6600 GT.

And it'll still look freaking awesome :D I'm impressed how well a 2005 game like GW1 still looks so good, not cutting edge by any means, but the artistry in the game and background scenery really caps it off.

I'm rather surprised how nice GW1 still looks by todays standards.

This was a dungeon or quest I recently did in eotn that looked stunning, but eotn is noticably better looking than the main 3 campaigns:

^^ That still maxes out with 4x AA on an ATI 9600 pro.

An ATI 5770 and Athlon X2 should be enough for GW2 on max.

If I remember correctly, the guy that developed Shiny's Sacrifice worked on both GW games, and that game was one of the first that made extensive use of polygon scaling, and GW1 looks very similar to it but improved.

While Im sure guildwars 2 will run very smoothly even on older hardware. Im hoping we have the ability to really crank it up on higher end kit. ArenaNet have the best art team in the business. Would be Great to see that artwork in all its glory.

The graphics in GW2 arent really that much better than GW1 though, they are just shinier with a larger draw distance and a lot more polys, though nothing looks too demanding, its just covered in bloom and glossy effects.

The graphics are tons better in GW2! From what i have seen so far anyway. GW1 graphics look really dated, and i don't think it has aged well imo. :P

lol, Why are you under the effects of unyielding aura aura, or am I mistaken? Haven't played in years.

Maybe because its skill number 8 on my skill bar?

Unyielding Aura

Elite Enchantment Spell. While you maintain this enchantment, your Monk spells heal for +15...51...60% more Health. When this enchantment ends one random other party member is resurrected with full Health and Energy and teleported to your location.

Unlike Healers Boon, UA also boosts the Divine Favour party heals which only cost 5e each, plus heal party.

Also running two monks - one with UA, and a second with Arcane Mimicry and Healing Burst is bat poop mental - Heal your target for 288 health, and all party members in the area for 71 every 4 seconds for just 5 energy:

Healing Burst

Elite Spell. Target ally is healed for 10...130...160. All party members in earshot of your target gain Health equal to the Divine Favor bonus from this spell. Your Smiting Prayers are disabled for 20 seconds.

Earshot even, both the primary and earshot range heals get boosted by mimicking and maintaining UA, plus you have a pair of instant resurrects which provide full health and energy.

Or you dont even need 2 monks:

That elly and monk can keep just about everything redbarred. The elly needs infuse health though, /doh I forgot that. Cant have succor for the monk then it seems :(
