Guild Wars 2

I agree with pretty much everything you said Jano, I don't want to come across like I'm complaining, I'm just constructively criticising a game that could have been great.

I dunno what they could have added to be honest, a LFG system would have been nice even if it was only server wide. I'm not saying that they are genre basics either, but you're going up against WoW when you release an MMO, at least try and steal as much as possible from other games to give yourself a fighting chance.

Edit just for you Mossy :p I can't keep posting huge posts, because I've said everything multiple times, I'm not saying the game doesn't have content, nor am I saying it is bad, I am saying it could have been a lot better.

End of the day, the game isn't for me, it was very close, but I guess I'll just have to wait for another MMO.

Problem with most LFG dungeon system is they detract from the sense of community in a game.

If people can just join a queue and get thrown in random people who generally play recklessly, dungeons wouldnt be fun at all.

At least by not having a LFG system you can pick and choose who you play with and in most cases build up a group of people who you know play well, I've done many dungeon runs both with guild members and pugs, some of which have been more successful than my organised groups.

There is a zone wide LFG system in place, but due to poor UI placement I think most people are not aware of it. Failing that Lions Arch map chat is good place to start :)

I've 'grouped' more in this mmo than in the last five combined. I'm rarely actually in a group, because it's just not necessary anymore, other than for dungeons obviously.

You find someone doing the same thing as you, you naturally start working together, discussing whether you can take that champion mob, how to solve a jumping puzzle etc.

For someone who was a dedicated mmo soloer it's just inspired how natural they manage to make it for people to get together and help each other out.

I don't see why a LFG would be a problem at all? Do you have a problem with overflow servers, surely they detract from a community as well? If LFG was server wide, or even if it was an LFG channel, like I said, I'm not a dev, I just wanted to give my opinion on the game at the moment and I got a lot of heavy criticism. xD

Can i have your stuff?

Or will you be back for xpacs...

Pretty much guaranteed to be Jormag and Northern Shiverpeaks for the first expansion I'd imagine. So much blatant hinting towards it.

Then I'd imagine the 2nd expansion will be Kralkatorrik and the Crystal Desert.

My Personal Story has sent me to the 'Norn area' so I'm starting to find out about Jormag as I go along. My own preference from what I've read/picked up though is the Elder Dragon that kicked the Asura from the underground of Tyria (being Asura myself)..

Do folks think they will drop expansions on us or drip feed DLC style content? Actually has there been any news on the style that future content will take. All I’ve heard about is “free” updates from that piece in Forbes.

They will add free updates to the game up until expansions then probably charge for them as they did in GW1. So you may get free content added then an paid expansion. Rinse and repeat for the more likely scenario.

Primordus is the one that kicked the Asura out (the Destroyers are its minions, and its the dragon you see at the end of GW1 EotN), my guess that will be the 3rd expansion ;) And will take you to the Ring of Fire.

Then that just leaves the as yet unnamed 'water' dragon that's in the ocean.

And possibly the 'nature' dragon that no one has mentioned yet. As it seems to be the only one conspicuously missing from the line up.

People are linking the dragons to the old Gods thusly:

Zhaitan - Grenth
Jormag - Dwayna
Kralkatorrik - Lyssa
Primordus - Balthazar
'Bubbles' - Abaddon
Nature Dragon - Melandru

GW1 concept art for Abaddon here appears to show Abaddon surrounded by water like dragons.

No worries, maybe take a break away from ti for a week or two and get back on it?

Yeh that's what I'm doing. I'm still going on for the odd hour or two though, but I feel like I'm running out of things to do and just sort of playing "chase the dynamic event".

I'm sure once I get into the PVP side of it more I'll get a lot more out of the game, but I sort of want to get to level 80 and finish that side of the game first.

I agree with the negative points on the LFG subject, that it kills server communities etc.

What i think is annoying about not having a LFG similar to WoW's system is that sometimes when you logg in and plan to do a dungeon, it can be impossible to find a group, or it takes way to much time. Sometimes making a group can take 1 hour +, that's really not fun at all.

This is my idea for a dungeon LFG system for the game. They should have some kind of notice board with a visible icon at the top of UI to promote using it. I think it should work just how the current one works, but instead you can show information on your group requirements etc, also have a option to contact party leader, and you can use it anywhere within the GW2 world to.

GW1 had a good group system. You could see a list of groups and the recruitment message. Nice and easy.

Explorer mode dungeons are easy without having to zerg. What you need is a team with patience.

I find if I can get a team to wait for 1 minute before each boss. And just quickly throw some info and ideas around. it goes smoothly in 1 pull. If its new. A team like that will be able to figure a strat for 2nd pull and win.

While you can run a group with all the same classes. Its better to have variety. Particularly a guardian.

Take away the fact I said content, what about features? I don't get why people are defending everything about this game so adamantly like it's completely perfect as it is? Surely you can see there are some flaws with it?

This game has features WOW and other mmo doesnt. its done things refreshing and unique instead of copying WOW.

Its not perfect, far from it but some of the negetives that people have stated i and others disagree on and with good reasons.

For example u got someone(was it u?) who has so far played 8 hours per day of this game every day since its been released and moaning about lack of content, expecting it to have same content as a 10 year old mmo.

I've only played Mesmer so far, and only to level 7 or so, but I must say I'm not enjoying it at all so far.

The Mesmer, which I thought would be similar to an Enchanter or Illusionist, is just a more complicated DPS class.

I think that's my current grumble with the game: they all seem to be DPS classes with some healing thrown in.

I miss the "dps; heal; support; suppression" distinctions in other games. I guess I'm just stuck in my D&D ways :p

And the fact that buffs last only 5 seconds, and debufss only 3 seconds or so, it makes everything seem pointless and/or twitchy.

Well after playing the closed beta and then the pre-purchase beta weekends I was set on a Charr Warrior. Ran him up to 80 now where he idles in town. I purchased additional character slots and filled them with one of each profession. My issue is now I am absolutely loving the guardian. Its just my type of play knowing I am doing damage at the same time as I am supporting my team. I really didn't plan on one of my alts being favoured over my main!

Anyone else had this issue in this or another MMO?

Mesmer was a bad choice for a first character to be honest, should try out a necro or hunter if you want a pet but don't expect ones which can tank like pets in other MMOs!

Boons (buffs) are always very short duration but some of the traits you can get give you permanent boons.

My Mesmer is level 26, it's by far the more difficult/frustrating class I've tried but for some reason I keep playing him.

guys , a technical PC specification question.

My son wants to join in on GW2, and he has my old rig:

Q6600 @ 3.2 GHZ
Abit X38 GT mobo
4 gb RAM
4870 x 2 (single card)

What do we think this will perform like in game?
I see some laggy points with my current build (see sig) but I think that is more to do with the game / server end.

Thoughts / comments appreciated guys.

Yeah I don't really get the "point" of the Mesmer class.

They aren't a crowd control class, since they can't root/ charm/ mesmerise/ banish/ imprison (you get the idea).

They just seem to be a damage dealing class, with a really frustrating mechanism for doing damage :p

Yeah, I should try something else, class-wise. Maybe elementalist? Should pretty much do what it says on the tin, eh? :p

Yup true this tough class to play but really rewarding if played correctly.

On another note did a guild jumping puzzle run tonight, was really funny watching people fail at it :D, but was such a good laugh we went on to do 2 more :p

Most puzzle are good fun and enjoyable to learn whilst others are just buggers!
Added fun when doing it as a guild run as its with the mindset, we all make it through, so its stop go back and curse the players who has fallen/died in the traps (me :() ..and then carry on, we even managed to get the one where you carry the Bomb cleared (Griffonrook run, I think its called) :D

Rewarding, how, exactly?

Is it rewarding purely because it's more complex? Or do you find the Mesmer to have interesting abilities?

When I looked at their "tech tree" so to speak, it didn't seem like they had any really special abilities, except the 10s polymorph.

Mind you, I don't think GW is the kind of game I'm after.

It seems like a cross between an MMORPG and a FPS like Counterstrike. It's missing the traditional kind of D&D classes and their strategic depth.

Well now I think mesmer is a lot of fun, although initally I wasn't too keen on it.

Greatsword in pve is amazing. For pvp I've gone a full confusion/glamour spec with staff and scepter/torch.

Overall the mesmer has a lot of visually appealing skills, and highly effective ones underwater. Feedback has to be one of the best skills in the game (especially if traited right); it targets very easily compared to a lot of skills, and can be cast at quite a long range.

I dunno, there's so many ways to play it - shattering, sword duelling, condition damage, stealth, phantasm damage...

Yes in general all classes have to be able to cover all bases - dps and defence/healing. None are really unique in that way.
