Guild Wars 2

LOL, I've been saying there'd be an expansion for over 6 months now... :D

I love it when I'm proven right.

At the moment this is pure speculation though. But it would be nice if it does happen

So I stated playing this again, Starting from the beginning because it was about a year ago since I last played it. I have rolled a Necro, I am doing the PVE side of things which is great but I dipped into sPVP my god I am confused to hell!

Trying to make new gear for him which I think I got the hang of. Also trying out the different builds.

I am struggling getting my moves off, I am ok with 1-5 but I was wondering how others have their key binds.

I have also removed the weapon swap and put it on my shift key which helps!

I played GW2 at the beginning and then picked it up again about a month ago, currently have a lvl 70 Necro.

I'm not one of these button clicking macro setup crazy people i prefer the laid back approach. So i have found that the Logitech G600 mmo mouse has been a god send for me.

I've mostly been doing WvW and PvE (lot of Lions Arch stuff)

Im too slow and laid back to be doing PvP hehe.

Well I am on desolance server...sorry if I got this wrong. Cant remember off the top of my head! I need to join a decent Guild.

Not sure what direction I want to play the game. PvE, PvP or WvW I just keep dipping into sPVP but finding it really hard to get to grips with it.

I'm on that server too at the weekend I'll chuck u my user name :) I'm part of a large really good guild the York guild. Good fun we were doing the guild puzzles and bounties the other night plus they are very relaxed :)

Has anyone finished the living story I loved the battles good combo of hectic and skill. Plus the end cut scene is great. Really enjoying this game despite reading all the negative.

Finally got a kill on my guardian, really enjoyable set of fights. Annoyed I didn't get to do more of it (LS that is), will rectify that with next chapter :)

Yer this and last patch was my first :) can't wait for the next chapter. I had to guest on another server to get the kill but that's one of the little touches I like. You arnt limited by server on the pve kills

Shame you missed out on the Marionette from the patch before, that was one of my favourite World Events they've done. Sucks it got removed :(

If you want to still do a bit of the old Scarlet LS there is an Aetherblade path in Twilight Arbor that was introduced before the 'Tower of Nightmares' stuff, which shows where Scarlet was manufacturing her Airships and beginning the Nightmare Court + Krait alliance to produce the Miasma.

There is also the Molten fractal (and the Molten Bosses fractal) which was one of the early LS dungeons they added before converting it to a fractal, it's not the full thing, but it's about 2/3 of it.

Same goes for the Aetherblade retreat fractal (and the Mai Trin boss fractal), again this was one of the dungeons added in part way through the living story, and later converted to a fractal.

Both before we knew anything about Scarlet.

So you can still experience some of the old events.

Dungeons are just that dungeons that are the normal part of any MMO, they have 3 paths however I beleive and you can go into them as part of (but not essential to) your Personal Story. Different dungeons unlock as you progress through the levelling process.

Fractals are part of GW2 'end game' they are 'evolving' dungeons I believe, available at level 80. The more of them you do the more of a fractal level you acheive - I have probably explained that really really badly though.

I've been playing on and off since launch week and never stepped foot into a dungeon or a fractal, as I'm slaaaaaaaaack. Hopefully aim to rectify that end of the month ish after I transfer back to Gandara

Stupid question is stupid, but what is the differance between a fractual and a dungeon. Something I have been wondering the last few weeks. Or are they the same :)

Dungeons are like extensions to your Personal Story. Each one has a 'Story' instance which you need to do first to unlock the 'Explorable' instances.

The Story instance (as the name suggests) is more lore driven and concerns one or more characters from 'Destiny's Edge' (Caithe, Logan, Ritlock, Zoja, Eir).

Story instances are easier than Explorable modes.

Completing a story instance doesn't give much reward, a few silver and that's about it, you do it to experience the storyline.

Once you've unlocked Explorable mode each dungeon has 3 'paths' you can attempt (apart from Arah which has 4). Each path has you doing a different quest in the same area, but involves areas of the dungeon you previously might not have visited, traps you might not have encounted, or enemies you might not have fought.

Depending on the path you chose the rewards for completion can range from 1-3g, plus XP, karma, and loot. Some paths are much harder than others, and their length varies greatly.

Fractals on the other hand are like 'mini' dungeons, and unlike dungeons you don't get to pick which you do. Fractals are slices of time from Tyria's past.

There are currently 14 possible fractals, 11 normal fractals, and 3 boss fractals.

Normal

Aquatic Ruins
Swampland
Uncategorised
Urban Battlegrounds
Molten Furnace
Snowblind
Cliffside
Aetherblade
Thaumanova
Underground
Volcanic

Boss

Captain Mai Trinn
Molten
Solid Ocean

To finish a set of fractals you must complete 3 normal fractals and 1 boss fractal (back to back without leaving).

You have a personal 'Fractal Reward Level', as a new player going in your reward level will be 1. If you complete a full set of fractals that will increase to 2. The higher the Fractal Level the harder the fractals become (enemies will do more damage, there'll be more enemies, harder versions of enemies, environment effects will be stronger etc.).

At Lv10 bosses within the fractals gain an ability called 'Agony' which causes massive damage. The only way to protect from this is to equip Agony Resistance Infusions in your ascended equipment, each infusion halves the amount of damage you take from Agony. However at every multiple of 10 levels Agony increases in strength, so you would need to also increase the amount of AR infusions on your character to progress.

For example at Lv10 Agony removes 12% of your max health every second. With 5 AR that drops to 6%, with 10 AR it drops to 1%.

However at Lv20 you would need 25 AR to only take 1% damage. At Lv30 you'd need 40 AR. etc.

When you hit Fractal Level 30 you start to get party wide debuffs called Mistlock Instabilities that last the entire time you are on your fractal run. These are things like:

Outflanked - Enemies do more damage when attacking from behind or the sides.

Last Laugh - Enemies explode when killed.

Social Awkwardness - Nearby allies reduce your healing effectiveness.

Each Fractal Level 30-50 has it's own Instability that you have to deal with.

The higher your Fractal Level the more chance of better rewards, Ascended Rings, Infused Ascended Rings, Ascended Materials, Ascended Weapon / Armour boxes, Fractal Weapon Skins, Exotics, etc.

That would be great, ill be on over the weekend too! I am new to this because I didn’t get to level 80 when it was released. I have used my free level 20 and rolling a Necro.

What is the guild based on PvE sPvP or WvW?

I am not bothered which one just out of interest that’s all. I am abit overwhelmed with what I can do. Can anyone suggest what I would need to do? Just plod on with the story and the hearts? and does it all fall in place once I hit level 80?

While levelling I suggest you don't rush your first time through. GW2 rewards exploration, you'll get much more XP just wandering around the zones uncovering areas, finding vistas, doing dynamic events etc than just grinding out on mobs.

You'll find your Personal Story will quickly out level you, so between story steps, go out and explore the maps, if you get bored of a zone there's usually two or three others in the same level range to move to instead.
