Guild Wars Questions

I eventually got on and I am enjoying but I must be doing something wrong as a level 3 warrior against a lvl 3 and 2 level 1 skeletons i'm getting spanked inside 2 secsonds despite having my own healing spells

seems quite good though.

Try and find an active guild, if you're still in pre-searing.. you just need to level up a bit.. they can hurt. Once you get out of pre-searing, you'll have henchmen that you can call upon.

Snip, my post was too evil :(

Advice - Dont use heal spells on your warrior, and look for the henchmen.

2 noob questions for you.

What is searing?

What are/where do I find henchmen? (or should I find that out for myself?)

Actually a 3rd question. What are these signet things I keep finding? Fire signet, air signet blah blah.

@ bhaav. I got a self heal as one of my first 2 abilities. Just don't use it?

If you started in Prophecies, and it's all green, you're in Pre-searing.

If you don't see henchmen by the zone portal, you're in pre-searing.

Pre-searing is a special tutorial area, that's set 2 years before the rest of the game. Once you leave 'pre' you can't go back.

Signets are usually skills that you can use that cos 0 energy. For a Warrior the main one you get is Healing Signet. However it has a downside that whilst you are using it you have less armour, and so take more damage.

If you have to use it, use it out of combat.

Once you leave pre-searing, you'll see henchmen (including monk healers).. I'd ask what your character is so I could help ya, but as that's part of your account security..

If you pick the 1st expansion do you have to lvl a character from scratch  as on the character creation screen you can pick any expansion you want to start on which is confusing. I picked the game up today so im also a noob.

From scratch you get the choice of a Role-playing character (PvE toon who starts from level 1), or a PvP character, (which starts at lvl 20).

However you can't use the PvP character to do PvE. All PvE characters start from lvl 1.

The choice of where to start only affects the professions available to you, and where you start the game from (Factions is a lot quicker for example, but Prophecies has more quests that unlock skills, Nightfall has heroes which is a good idea to get).

If you can it's generally a good idea to create toons in the original expansion in which they appeared (Assassin + Ritualist in Factions, Paragon + Dervish in Nightfall, rest in Prophecies).

Sorry, until you have a full skill bar available, feel free to use whatever skills you like. It will be a while before you can make a decent damage specced warrior anyway.

Henchmen are NPCs that join your group like other characters. They are normally inside outposts, but I'm not sure if pre searing has them. They will normally be stood in a line and have names like 'Cynn, Devona, Eve, Alesia, Aidan', plus lots of others in different outposts, see here for a full list:

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Henchman

There are lots of different skill types in GW:

'Skill' - an 'untyped' universal skill. Most touch range abilities tend to be just called 'skills'.

'Spell' - spell type skills that caster classes use.

'Signet' - a type of skill that costs no energy

'Glyph' - a skill that boosts your next (or more than one) spell cast (only found in elementalist skills)

'Enchantment' - a beneficial buff that is either self, ally, or party wide targeted

'Hex' - a negative debuff that can be cast on enemies.

Then theres more stuff too like shouts, chants, and forms.

Spells + Warriors = bad idea because spells cost energy and warriors only have 2 pips of energy regen. Warriors normally rely on adrenaline skills, with a few energy cost attacks thrown in that synergize with the rest of the build.

GW is a very complex game to get into, back when it first came out and people were playing it blindly with little help, we were all total nubcakes for well over a year :D

OMG we need a tank!
We dont have a tank yet, we still need a tank.
LFG tank, we need a tank please. *Warrior joins*

It seemed rather busy in the town. It was no stormwind at prime time but for 11pm on an evening it was pleasantly busy. Was surprised as I was under the impression the game was dead.

Ok thanks for some of the tips. 1 last nub question. Can I go straight into searing at low levels (I had te option to go "beyond the wall") or should I level more?

American servers are more active as well, in case you want to pair up. Of course being member of a big guild is always a good thing. I'm sure there are plenty to cater for the beginners.

Some leave pre-searing straight away, and power level through prophecies. Although nowadays, you're probably better off with nightfall for that. Still, if you want a prophecies character, it's possible. The Survivor title used to be quite difficult, and the best way to achieve it was to tag along a bunch high level characters and obviously not get killed :)

Some stay in pre-searing until max level. Those are 'quite mad'. It's South Park all over again, all day, every day (Push it to the limit! :)).

Will it be possible to play through solo just using henchmen? Just the main storyline I'm not talking all the hard dungeon/raid stuff I'm really just wanting a play through to see what it's like before guild wars 2.

Yes you can easily do the game just using Hero's/Hench.

The problem you will have is your lack of skill unlocks. So Hero's aren't going to be much use to you atm.

But yeah, you can roll through the game using Henchies in NM no fuss.

Other thing to note about starting chapters.

Prophecies = Shallow learning curve, you get LOTS of free skills, but you level slowly.

Factions/Nightfall = Steeper learning curve, you get very few free skills, but you level very quickly.

So in general Proph is best for a new player, it eases you into the game, you get lots of free skills to help you along, and you don't need any money to get going.

Factions/Nightfall is best for players who have already played and want to get a new character to lv20 ASAP, have some cash saved up to get max armour/runes/weapons/skills off the bat, and just want to get going.

brings back the days of competitions on who could get level 20 the fastest...in prophecies it tooks weeks , and in factions you could do it in hours lol.
factions is also a nice way of easy money , as the early tutorials chuck it at you and then you can just bank it.

but i agree prophecies has a nice campaign, some of the later stuff is really cool. asides from when you get to Crystal Desert - that whole area is pretty **** especially when you have to fight yourself ><

Can I go straight into searing at low levels (I had te option to go "beyond the wall") or should I level more?

This depends on if you are looking for titles or not. "Beyond the Wall" is a quest in a slightly harder area of pre-searing, which the game tries to get you to team up with another player to do. However as it's also a place where you can get some nice XP, a lot of players solo that map for the XP, by asking for a GM (Gate Monkey, a person who joins you to open the gate, and then maps out so you're alone), this GM can be free (usually if you're in a big enough alliance), or more likely will charge 50gp, which you will easily make back from the kills in the zone.

Ideally you should be lvl 7/8 to solo the Northlands, and that is if you have access to the Imp stone (type /bonus to see if you do).

If you get to lvl 20 in pre-searing there is a title you can earn (Legendary Defender of Ascalon, which will take quite a while to attain).

However if you are not to concerned about titles, most people move to "post" (ie, not pre), around lvl 5 to 8. To goto post you need to follow the quests from Saberlin... finally finishing with a quest called "War Preperations", his icon changes to a mission when you've chosen your secondary profession. Once you do his last mission, you will be in post and won't be able to go back to pre.

The first day I got factions I had a level 20 Ritualist, and I probably wasnt even withing the first few thousand people to reach level 20 lol.

I didnt even try to level fast, I was just crazily hooked and played for almost a full day (maybe like 14-16 hours!) on prophecies releasse day.

Then when Nightfall came out, I looked through all the new skills and saw 'Searing Flames' and 'They're on Fire' / Angelic Bond / Shield of Absorption'.

I thought o.O ... I'm about to hold halls with heroes .... And I almost did, I won HoH a few times with a 2 human, 4 hero team consisting of three SF ellys, 1 ToF / Angelic Bond paragon, 1 human monk and 1 hero monk.

There were loads of top 50 ranked guilds still running HA with their old factions based builds (Blessed light monks and other out of date stuff), and I steamrolled them in seconds .... then they all quit, permanently :D

I got up from Rank 6 to Rank 7 using heroes, but then they nerfed it completely and heroes were no longer allowed in PVP so I quit. I just wanted to farm fame points with heroes, even if I only won the first map or two.

Wammo!!!!

OMG the Wammo is using Mendehin'!!!!!!?????111111 /Uninstall the game naow :p (I LOVE playing wammos in RA to **** people off, its hilarious).
