H1Z1 - Zombie apocalypse sandbox from SOE

So, is this free to play on day one? Steam listing seems to be pointing towards that.

From the trailers I've seen it looks pretty interesting but also very janky which is expected for early access.

Sounds like it is never going to take off then. I've had enough of early access games because most of the time they never make it to a decent stage.

They are running it on a very similar business model to planetside 2 along with running the same game engine, the game is initially what SOE class as pre alpha so the early access actually gives you pre alpha access.
When the game is finally complete it will then release as Free to Play with micro transactions but it has been stated that the micro transactions will give no in game benefit to players, you cannot purchase things like weapons, ammo, bandages etc. most of the micro transactions will be purely cosmetic alongside game tokens which are used to purchase a vote on new server rule sets (the tokens are also awarded free over time played but you can purchase more).
If enough players use their tokens to vote for a server which allows flying pigs for example and this server is a success then all players who used their token to buy into that server will have their token returned, so basically if you get enough friends who want a non pvp server you can use a token to vote for it.
SOE have also stated that the game will release on PS4 but for now the focus is on getting it up and running on the PC.

It does seem a bit weird though that we are paying them to find the bugs/glitches for them ;) Then after that everyone gets it for free.

Very true, I still remember the days when early access or beta access were usually applied for and then you had to submit system specs, sign NDS's etc but they were free (usually you were offered a discount on the full game as a reward) but it seems to be standard practice now to pay for all early access, some of the less honest developers are even cashing in on this by selling crap they never intend to finish just to get a quick buck from early access.
In fairness though look at the amount of games in development now compared to about 10 or 15 years ago and a lot of this funding comes from selling EA, so it does have a positive side.

Yeah I have a ton of EA games, some like Stomping Lands are abandoned already, but when you get games like Project Zomboid it shows how good EA can actually be. I don't mind paying into EA as long as other people have to pay as well when it hits the retail stage lol.

But yeah I remember those days you are talking about, it was hard to get into testing as well. But it was worth it as you say as you got a discount on the main product.

In fairness I am a little biased with H1Z1, I talk to some of the devs there and Greg the community manager for H1Z1 is a total gem of a guy so I know how much the guys and gals at SOE are putting into this and how proud they are of it,
Im not saying because its Sony it wont fall flat on its backside but it has a better than average chance of succeeding and they are all involved in a game and genre that is of great interest to them all.
I'm also one of the admin for the curse H1Z1 wiki (sounds better than it really is lol) http://h1z1.gamepedia.com/H1Z1_Wiki, We have not been updating it much lately as there was so much speculation and SOE wouldnt confirm a lot of information for us but after the 15th it will be full steam ahead once again :) feel free to stop by and help out if you feel the need :).

ftp early access is basically how games are going to end up.

im not going to get this straight away something just doesn't feel right. going to hold off a bit and see how it goes down.

too many unfinished games like this already.

not long now till meltdown.:D

I'm going early access :)

Been waiting for this for a very long time and to be honest I'm sick and tired of hearing about the rage inducing badly hit registered Battlefield 4

Looking forward to the rage post from Dg and Neil then haha.

Dedintly getting this I was going to wait as I have been burned in the past with world war z and nether but with sonys money behind this and the chance this will be as big as dayz and for the ps4 I can see them wanting this to do well.

Tried breaking point and arma 3 just doesn't do it for me just feels clunky movement wise compared to arma 2 and I've tried to get on with it just don't enjoy it .

As bad as it may sound but even though WarZ was a hack fest and had many issues that took the dodgy developer time to fix, I enjoyed it a lot. So many great moments and bad ones :D

WUT?

A3 clunky compared to A2.... Never ever seen anyone say that before. Movement wise A3 is as smooth as a babies backside. Might be your PC needs upgrading?

It's just the way you move run walk etc also hate the way the cars drive it's shocking in pov and 6-7 people I still play with feel the same and rather play arma 2. it's not a pc issue I have 970gtx I7 etc etc just the game, I bought it on day of release and just not as fun for me hence looking forward to h1z1

haha good baiting. what you may forget is planet side 2 which this engine uses and most of those same hacks will work with this were rampant.

its early release im sure the rage will be strong on release.
