H1Z1 - Zombie apocalypse sandbox from SOE

It's SOE what more can you say they will find away to kill/destroy it as they do every game they get their hands on. Never hated a company as much as SOE.

It's free to play though so you as a consumer have nothing to lose by trying it out. It'll be in Sony's main interest to delivering a complete product which can get money through online purchases.

Obviously, wait until the real release date rather than the early access.

Theres a lot of pressure on SOE now to make their games attractive to play, as all their new games are f2p, so they really need to grab a player immediately, as otherwise they move on to the next game, not so bad in the old days when they got £30 from a box sale, but they dont have that luxury now.

I may even pay for early access to this...if I can spare the time from playing EQ2 :)

Well I think you will be hard pressed to find a company in the games business that doesn't tbh. EA and Ubi, even Paradox have released shockingly poor games, Valve can't be bothered to make games, Chris Roberts has convinced people to pay for $1000 for digital spaceships that no one has seen really working, CCP killed White Wolf to cover up their failures, need I go on.

Let's just see how this one turns out before we judge it. For me if it plays like a shooter then I won't be the least bit interested. But I do want someone to actually finish and release a survival game where there is a need and benefit to working with people over shooting people. I am not really convinced that will be the case here especially in the light of some of Smedley's comments. But I will at least give it a chance.

Exactly, my dream is SWG but even more choice on careers, crafting etc. But combined with a shooter, rather than button pressing like most memos.

Will be trying this out. Maybe good, may not. Can't really judge it till you played. It's not like SOE has only produced crape games.

They showed zombies and how lethal/fast they are after their server was rebooted.

Showed how to craft a cabin/shed like House like in Rust and how it looked etc. We also got to see what vehicles look like and how they handle and how the melee and pistol works and so on.

Nothing really exciting or "good" but it's looking pretty good.

cheers for that. so the basics are there then just needs beefing out?

It was pretty rubbish and didn't show anything off.
Wanted to see skills, crafting etc, get a feel fir that side off it. Player compounds etc. That's what is interesting.

The most disappointing thing was the combat, it was obvious that zombies just had a health bar :(. Didn't matter where you hit them, I hope that's just because it's an early version. A shot to the head wasn't an instant kill, and chopping the body with an axe didn't amputate any limbs.

My interest in this game was shattered by that stream either the game looks very poor, or it was to early to show it off. I would love to think the latter but as the playable 4-6weeks in beta form, then I'm not so sure. Have to wait and see, haven't written it off totally, but that stream was depressingly rubbish.

Hello fellow Infected,
I'd like to announce a new feature for H1Z1. Player Servers. Similar to other games from SOE, H1Z1 is an MMO. We will launch with different rulesets and variants to cater to different playstyles.
We're excited about taking our dedication to letting you get a say in our games to a whole new level with Player Servers.
The idea is simple - If a community of our players wants to host a server with a specific theme or ruleset then we're going to do our best to give it to them. players will recieve a pledge token for free if they've played more than 5 hours. This pledge token can be used to cast a vote for a server. But use it wisely. You only get one free one per year. Make sure it's a community you believe in and that has a good chance to succeed because we're going to set the bar such that the community can sustain an MMO server (more details will be announced later). If you find yourself dying to vote on another server initiative we'll also sell pledge tokens but you can only use 2 pledge tokens a year max. So again, it's up to you but we want to make sure if we build it you're coming. We're also going to refund the station cash you used to buy it to your account if the Player Server Initiative succeeds. The Pledge token also comes with a wearable that's going to look sweet.
Why refund it if it succeeds? Simple - we really want to give you the kind of servers you want. We're going to set that bar high. If it succeeds, you've built a community of fellow players you want and as our customers we want to give you that. But we also need some indication of reality in order to make this work.
At SOE we've been doing a whole lot of asking our players what you think of our ideas. This is no exception. If you have better ones, we are all ears.
Hope you dig this.

That could just end fractured and low user population. It'll be in the details.
Would rather just a decent game than things like that. But as they are doing that, can we have a hard core realistic one. Rather than the stream where zombies were dumb and you can just walk past them.

Early access will be in 4 weeks and $19.99
