Halal, is it meat you're looking for?

First stunning should be mandatory in mass farming, then painless killing should be mandatory. There is zero reason to cut while they are alive.

Well there kind of is in this case otherwise it wouldn't be halal - the stunning as far as halal slaughter with stunning is concerned doesn't actually kill the animals - they are still cut when alive and that is what kills them.

It shouldn't matter religion should never trump law, and this very much should become law. We mass farm, therefore we should have the responsibility it treat animals as humanly as possible, now we know their is zero reason for a beating heart to drain the blood, we should change are methods. Same for animal welfare whilst, alive. That is already changing albeit slowly. For example we should ban non UK pork, unless they meet are standards.

The Muslim council should update their opinion, or exercise there right not to eat meat. the slicing of the throat whilst totally alive is to drain the blood. This is clearly not the case. Just because a religion says it needs to do something, doesn't mean they should. Especially as it would have little impact as they can go vegetarian. Same for people who can't afford meat reared properly.

Stunning doesn't kill I'm either case.
The reason for slicing whilst alive is to drain the blood, but in testing just with gravity blood drains the same, the fore you do not need a beating heart, which means you can dispatch animals painlessly, before slitting and draining the blood.

I don't understand how so many of you say you dont care how the meat is killed. Your either very naive or very heartless

For those of you who say you dont care if meat is halal or not please sit through this video and say its OK.

If you care how they are killed why don't you care how they are reared?

I'm sorry but being concerned how a chicken dies when most chickens are farmed in incredibly cruel situations.

I see their death as the least concerning part. I saw the Jamie Oliver thing about chickens it was horrible but I still eat them. Go Figure.

In your opinion perhaps but its rather unlikely any time soon - a better target would simply be to get the halal slaughter houses which don't practice stunning to do so. Banning halal slaughter completely (which is essentially what you'd have to do if you wanted to ensure that stunning was used to kill not just stun/incapacitate briefly) or proposing a method where you kill by stunning and then just drain the blood when dead and putting forward the idea that that was 'halal' wouldn't necessarily meet the approval of a lot of Muslims and I don't think many Politicians save for UKIP and a few Conservative backbenchers would want to be seen to be introducing a Danish style 'ban' on halal.

There's no way to really tell though? I guess when it comes to meat I try to shop properly at places that claim to follow the rules on treatment of animals and then place faith that they have actually do what they said they have.

people are concerned with how animals are reared, you can't say that and assume no one cares.

Which is what I said.
First make stunning mandatory, then make draining whilst alive illegal.

If it doesn't meet their requirements, as far as I know there's nothing in their religion saying they mist eat meat. they are free to go vegetarian if they choose. there is zero reason for a religious opinion to trump national laws, either current ones or future ones.

"If you don't like the place serving it, **** off."

All I said was the if you don't like a place not serving it, **** off.

Because I was there first? Subway has been serving BMT on the menu long before a minority cared about the products used in it.

Therefore, they **** off.

Perhaps also too graphic, watch this and tell me it's humane.

no its not humane and neither are the minority of halal slaughter houses that don't use stunning in the UK humane

the existence of cruelty in that video doesn't negate the cruelty in halal slaughter without stunning.... both the posted videos highlight cruel treatment of animals which should be stopped...

I don't mind how the meat is prepared as long as:

a) The animal isn't subjected to suffering in the process - if it is then that's not really on.

b) It doesn't lead to stuff disappearing off the menu in order to pander to a minority. I happen to like bacon and ham in my subs and if others don't, don't order it. If you don't like the place serving it, **** off.

Agreed with this 100%.
