*** Half-Life: Alyx ***

It is true that there are a lot of simple concept games, like Beat Saber. However, there are also some proper PC quality games; e.g. Lone Echo, Asgards Wrath, Stormlands. Then there are games like Arizona Sunshine which although look a little dated graphically, in my opinion offer a much better gaming experience than any pancake FPS. There is nothing quite like battling zombies in VR. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Walking Dead VR games.

Not forgetting Elite Dangerous, Alien Isolation and Skyrim which are truly amazing in VR

We just got a Quest, we have a Rift at the moment but we barely use it because we can never be bothered to set it up each time.

I'm hoping the Quest will play this well, could be fun!

Same :)
Still decking pricey though

Yep, you can buy an Oculus Rift S AND an Oculus Quest AND still have over £100 left over for buying games for the price of a Valve Index system.

For that price you're getting the best PC VR system out there, but you do pay through the nose for it. Plus of course to run at the faster refresh rates you need a monster PC.

As a somebody who also likes Half-Life, I am kind of disappointed they seem to be making this a VR only game. VR has never appealed to me and I don't want to be forced into it.

A relatively lengthy but enjoyable run through the trailer from one of the Black Mesa developers. He has some interesting insights with reference to the new engine and reveals loads small but important details that point towards what this game is going to be like.

My thoughts exactly. I've tried various models of VR over the years and it's fun, but not really for me.

It'll probably get hacked to run without VR support but I'm not sure it'll be very playable that way.

f anyone has a Rift and has upgraded to the Index, I'd be interested in feedback. Tempted just to get the headset and keep the base stations and wands....

I presume you mean the Vive? you mention the stations and the wands. The biggest difference is the overall clarity, and the the lack of the screen door effect. The amazing audio, and the comforting sturdy build outdo the deluxe audio strap if you had one of those. The headset alone blows away the Vive, I've not been disappointed with it anyway. The bonus with picking one up is the free copy of Alex, and the steam points you can reclaim in the sale, the value of that should take you to around £400.

Apologies! Yes, meant the Vive - edited now. I'm really tempted, despite the fact I've not used mine in a while ;) The added comfort, audio and clarity is a major boost. Hmm.

Fans: We want Gordon's story to continue!

Valve: Here, you can have this story about another sub-character (she's a girl though! OMG!!! #MeToo #wagegap) set before the last game that you want a sequel to.

Fans: Umm...Gordon?

I'm sure they will continue the story with HL3. I don't get why anyone would care about Gordon in any way though. The guy hasn't spoken a word in the entire franchise. Hopefully they have ditched the mute protagonist with this or Alyx will be just as rubbish a character as Gordon.
