Half-Life: Alyx

Played a couple more hours of this today, been playing for about 2 and a half to 3 hours so far and just met a crazy wizard type alien dude in the sewers. On the approach to him I was constantly down to my last mag so had to get a little bit creative in places. Such an awesome experience so far and runs flawlessly maxed out on my hardware which is nice. I seem to find myself exploring everything and think I might have even been running out of time on the previous section. Might have to pick up the pace a little. Are there time limits?

No time limits, just take your time to take it all in and explore.

One of the things Valve's dev team found was that in VR players take far more notice of their surroundings and poke their noses into every nook and cranny, so they had to go back and add extra detail to the levels.

It's another reason why playing Alyx as a normal FPS just won't work - non-vr players will just whizz through the levels, and think it's quite short, when it was never designed to be rushed through.

I think I opened every single cupboard/drawer that I came across!

I'm not sure I have the constition to play this game. I think I've just managed to get to chapter 4, those dark torch only bits are a bit scary at times :)

It's getting annoying, I started carrying around a desk drawer full of grenades. When that filled up, I swapped it for a small dustbin. There's no other way to carry them. Both my wrist pockets are filled with syringes.

Every time I get into a gunfight, I put the bin down somewhere safe, eliminate the hostiles, then continue carrying my rubbish bin throughout the game.

Does anybody else do this?

Did it for a while, but, it was just too annoying and stopped. Never felt like I needed a drawer full of nades to save me :p

What I did from that point on was to put nades in my wrist strap and carry one syringe with me.

Haha, yes. I carted grenades around in a bucket for ages. Like yourself, I plonked it down when fighting started and used them from the bucket. Became a pain though, so I just filled both my wrist pockets and kept one in hand. I find I rarely need to carry heath injections.

I must admit, I’ve taken my time with this game and haven’t finished it yet (at the Zoo), but it is nothing short of sensational. The attention to detail is astounding. My only gripe is the resin upgrades. It’s a bit of a slog. After Jake, I had a choice, grenade launcher or max out the mags on both the pistol & bio-gun. I chose the former and now wish I’d done the latter.
