Half-Life: Alyx

Done. That was an amazing experience, but what now....

Played Lone Echo yet? The only game I feel rivals Alyx in polish, story and characterisation. It's a more limited, shorter game though, and the actual gameplay puzzles are simple and can be repetitive. The Zero G locomotion and the hand and arm simulation has not yet been beaten. It's uncanny how it can work out your arm positions from your head and hand positions and orientation alone - it's ahead of Alyx in that respect, which is remarkable considering the game is a couple of years old.

You could try some of the 3rd party mods. There's one with lots of combine soldiers to defeat.

The level editor for Half-Life Alyx are due for release soon. That will allow for some great 3rd party content.

Nope, never played it. I'll check it out.:)

Just as a counterpoint to what Ravenger said. I thought Lone Echo was mind numbingly boring after the first hour or so. It's a decent story, it looks great and the first hour of the game is brilliant. After that, for me, the game stopped and it just became a story that you followed along.

I wouldn't pay full price for it, see can you get it on sale.

And if you do buy it, I wonder what your impressions will be. You are coming from Half Life Alyx, which got the balance nearly perfect between story and gameplay.

I'll definitely wait until it goes on sale. Valve have certainly set the bar very high. I loaded up SkyrimVR for the first time in almost a year earlier, only to turn it off after a few minutes.:p

Yeah, not everyone likes it. I loved it. But definitely worth picking up on sale.

Aye, they did!! :)

Did you try Boneworks? Worth a punt if you can get it on sale.

Another option would be something like Alien Isolation. If you are a gamer you might have it already. Just get the mothermod and install it. It's easy. But be warned, it's very tense in VR.

I think your best bet after playing Half Life Alyx is to play some Multiplayer game that you enjoy. Or a game that's also a hobby, like Eleven Table Tennis or Thrill of the Fight.

I am sure a lot of newcomers to VR are having the same problem. For the likes of you and me it's different. We have been in VR since nearly the beginning. But, for a lot of newbies, Half Life: Alyx will be their first VR gaming experience. Finding something to play after that will be challenging!! :)

I loved Alien Isolation. It was the most nerve-wracking thing I've played on a flat screen, to be honest. CR4EHaM.gif Unfortunately, it makes me i74dj3d.png in VR.

In fact, I'm still feeling "off" after trying to play it yesterday.

Good call. I got that free on Epic some time back.:D I should give that a go.

Although, not many things scare me more than the deep, dark ocean. So maybe it's not a good idea after all. Also, how well is VR implemented? 60 hrs is a long time to play something, so I'm guessing they've done a good job on that?

I got back into VR, like most people I imagine, when the DK1 was released. Despite having that, a DK2, HTC Vive and now a Rift S -- I still feel like I've never got my "VR legs".

I had a quick attempt at Subnautica VR the other day. It looks amazing, but I couldn't seem to get any type of controller to interact with menus and inventories properly, so had to go back to pancake mode.

Subnautica only works on gamepad or keyboard and mouse, unfortunately.

I played it with a xbox controller which came with my OG rift - it's certainly is a scary experience but you get used to it after a while. The scale of some of the creatures is amazing. I never found it that bad in terms of "VR legs" - not like boneworks for instance. As with all these open world games you can spend as much time as you like - if you gunned it I would say you could complete the main quests in about 20 hours.

Doom 3 Fully Posessed is worth playing. It's one of the best VR conversions out there. The biggest issue is the textures are quite low resolution and I could never get it to play nice with the high res asset packs. It does though have full support for motion controllers and you can use teleport or smooth movement.

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is a good slice of the original game. If you liked the original then it's really cool to be able to stand inside the game's locations rather than watching it on a monitor.

Hi, could you explain how you fixed it? I've downloaded process lasso but I have no idea what to do next!
Start half life alyx with process lasso open, tab out of the game and find the process then right click it and set it to high priority and its affinity to all cores.

For people looking for good vr conversions to play after completing alyx i would suggest Serious sam 3. If you have the stomach for it it is superb, great conversion and an insane amount of configurability.

Subnautica only works on gamepad or keyboard and mouse, unfortunately.

Tried both of them! With mouse I couldn't see the cursor, and what button was highlighted seemed almost random. With gamepad even less.

Maybe I was just being dumb. I'll give it another go shortly, since I'm playing through Subnautica anyway.

There is a VR mod which helps with all that
