Hamilton to Mercedes? BBC

No problems with general banter in F1 threads, it would be boring if we all wanted the same driver or team to win, but the last few months on here have been pretty dire. I hope the amount of baiting hasn't gone unnoticed by the moderators.

i wonder what will happen to that 'benefit of the doubt' people gave hamilton? Will it sway now he is in a german team? Also perez seems well liked in these forums, will that change too next year when he's up there fighting with JB?

The more I think about, the more I'm coming around to it and think that this could be great for him.

2013, well Mercedes have been spending all year building that car

2014 whole new rules, Mercedes will almost certainly have one of the best engines.
They've been splashing the cash on personnel and stuff, but that takes a few years to gell.

I do think Hamilton needed out of mclaren to grow as a driver. I hopped he would grow but it never happened. He has the speed and skill but he doesn't have the stratagy or being able to give the team decent info.
Now he's not being baby sat by the team he's been with since 13, perhaps brawn/Mercedes can get him to grow into these skills.

Hamilton needed to move and I think it will make him a stronger, better person because of it. If not, he'll implode horribly....

Perez, well he's done well to get the drive at Mclaren and while I think he has plenty to learn he is now in a good place to do it. If he starts beating Button.... well that will be interesting, especially as Button is likely no1 now.

Rosberg could struggle against Hamilton to begin with, I just think Hamilton is faster and a far sterner test than Schumacher. This season, Schumacher has the measure of him as well but for his reliability issues.

Ross Brawn must have told a magical tale to Lewis, but you've got to take a leap of faith now and again. Regardless, it all makes 2013 look interesting and will be nice to see how things pan out for all the drivers involved.

PS - Schumacher to Ferrari for one final season, Massa to Sauber :)

same for last years car and the car before.

you dont remember mercedes giving up on the car about half way into the seasons to focus on next years ? its like brawn is stuck in a loop.

seems to be the mentality of
hire more people still no wdc
hire more people still no wdc
hire more people still no wdc
sack aero guy still no wdc
hire a new driver

what will be the excuse when they dont win the title next year aswell and the year after?

every year brawn is constantly trying to grasp a magic bullet that will win the title rather than build a good solid car that can win races on its own merit.

maybe its time for a new manager at mercedes

Works both ways. Try wearing a McLaren hat while sat in a sea of red at a European grand prix.

From experience there is always banter, its part of the fun, but some nationalities are more malicious than others [/sweeping generalisation]

When they made those short feature movies with Hamilton and Button doing humorous things during F1 shows, those guys were like a comedy team. Can't imagine Rosberg or Perez being very good at those, they don't really have much personality.

So other than money, how does Whitmarsh read Lewis' decision? What would Lewis have said to Whitmarsh when asked why he wants to go? Would he have just said McLaren aren't reliable enough? It can only be that reason because they certainly have the fastest cars.

Maybe he just wants a new challenge and to "grow" away from Mclaren :)
