Cheap cables are fine as its digital. If you were going to get fancy expensive gold plated cables and stuff you should have a got a fancy expensive monitor which this isn't. Oh and dual link is required for higher resolutions because single link doesn't have enough bandwidth, hence it's needed for those 1920x1200 30" screens.
As i mentioned above, to switch between inputs you have to: Press menu, scroll to input, press menu again, select your input, press menu again and then scroll to exit and press menu.
