Harmless 39 year old alcoholic woman tortured and beaten to death by girls aged 13 and 14.

Hang these feral rats, these left wing, bleeding heart Liberals who say "they didn't know what they were doing" is why this country is rapidly going to the wall.
 
Why should they have anonymity? the argument being that they are children and should be protected. But can that be said when they are 18? should the worls now who they are and what they have done when they are 18?

I see in the BBC report that the older girl repeatedly tried to kill herself after she was arrested. In light of this and with what they'll likely get dealt in the klink when they're found out, killing themselves might just be the best thing for all concerned.

Pretty much as predicted then, 15 years which will quietly drop to 10 in a year or two when the case is largely forgotten, or when some wretched prison reform group or Amnesty International decide to make it their cause celebre. Should have been at least 25 years before parole as both punishment an deterrent.

Prison time needs to be a lot harsher/longer, It seems killing people now gets said sickos at most a decade with good behaviour, Sometimes less when some nutjobs rally for these sickos and the parole board goes soft.

Like Thompson and Venables. These two were well beyond any concept of deterrent at the time of their crime

Harsh sentences/Death only deters people who are going to be deterred! At that level there is plenty of evidence that it does affect peoples behaviour and does deter people but there are still going to people who will simply not care and therefore will not be deterred (at least not until afterwards, where, no doubt, a good dose of crocodile tears or suicide attempts might get them treated more leniently. And that worked didn't it! :( )

(Do defence Lawyers advise their clients to put on a show?? I bet they do! (Though they will no doubt use words like "Showing remorse" rather than instructing them directly))

In cases like this I do not necessarily want them locked up for life as either a punishment or a deterrent.

I want them permanently excluded from society because I think they are too dangerous to be ever released.

One option is indeed to execute them (It might be a mercy actually)

If you are squeamish about executing teens then one could just do it "Texas Style" and wait until they are 20! ;)

But I am happier with exile.

A 6 month course in subsistence crofting before being released somewhere like the remote end of West Falkland to live out there lives free, but isolated and completely on their own. (Except for the other exiles. Thompson and Venables can join them for example. I am sure they would all get on just fine :D) I am sure we could find somewhere suitable.

You really do have to despair for the human race sometimes, I know these girls aren't exactly typical of modern youth but it does appear to be more and more common to post pictures on to social media, I know of an incident local to me the other week where someone hung themselves, their "friends" thought they were messing about and left them hanging on the back of a door for an hour or so before taking them down, posting pictures on social media, and then contacting help...

No such thing exists. Someone who is of the mindset to kill someone is not going to be put off by the death penalty or torture or whatever.

The only deterrent that might work would be the one from Minority Report, where you stop them just before they do it.

Unfortunately, foretelling of the future is not something available to us at the moment :D

There is no deterrent. If you commit a murder, you know what you're in for. I doubt knowing that you might also die really lends much to your thought process if you can get over the hurdle and think that killing someone is acceptable.

What do you want to achieve by punishing people?

I think skinning them alive would send the right message to those two little degenerates and those like them.

The thought of supporting their 'rehabilitation' through the so called criminal justice system makes my stomach churn.
