Harry and Meghan to resign

In your face The Sun and Clarkson.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has said an apology by the Sun over a column in which Jeremy Clarkson said he “hated” Meghan is “nothing more than a PR stunt”.
The column has become the Independent Press Standards Organisation’s (Ipso) most complained about article, with more than 20,000 people contacting it over the piece, according to Ipso.

The article was removed from the Sun’s website on Monday at Clarkson’s request after widespread criticism.
On Friday, the Sun said it regretted the publication of the column and was “sincerely sorry”.

But on Saturday, a spokesperson for the Sussexes said Meghan had not been contacted by the newspaper to apologise.
The spokesperson said: “The fact that the Sun has not contacted the Duchess of Sussex to apologise shows their intent. This is nothing more than a PR stunt.
“While the public absolutely deserves the publication’s regrets for their dangerous comments, we wouldn’t be in this situation if the Sun did not continue to profit off and exploit hate, violence and misogyny. A true apology would be a shift in their coverage and ethical standards for all. Unfortunately, we’re not holding our breath.”

Watching the 6 episodes the only thing they've really said about the 'Firm' is that they didn't help them and told them all the women have gone through it.
It seemed all the way through they were constantly attacking the media, the Palace Aides and the Palace media team.
Yes that could be because they were being told to say/do things by the Firm.

There is definitely a sibling rivalry with his brother which is understandable in the position they are in. The thing that I got from it was the lack of help Harry gave his wife into fitting in. I don't think it was intentional. It is just the way he has been brought up and he just comes across as a helpless boy.

He did mention this on the documentary and basically 'get on with it' attitude.
It took him ages to realise the media attacks weren't the same as his Mother and other female royals.

I don't think we should have a royal family, so I don't like them at all but I don't like Harry and Megan either, they come across as spoilt brats with nothing better to do than whinge, yes the press are awful but he could have a life much less in the spotlight life if he wanted but he doesn't, he wants it both ways, and Hollywood royalty arent much better than real royalty.

Except he can't just skirt away because the press want their flesh and logically surely he ought to milk as much as possible from this before it genuinely does become irrelevant since it's hardly like he can do much else having been hobbled/coddled incessantly from birth by not being directly in line for the throne.

The UK press are on another level to anything else. They want more control and to tell their own story not to the have rags of the UK media make a load of nonsense up and seemingly print what they want.

He's a bit thick tbh... Meghan isn't too bright either but not as clueless as Harry.

The had the means to get proper help on integration, she just came across as quite naïve.

Absolutely, there's a clip doing the rounds from suits, she knows what a curtsy is, she knows it isn't a performative bow as she did in the documentary. She had a Lady in Waiting available to advise her too.

You'd have thought she might have done a bit of reading herself though, I mean it's not like others don't marry into different cultures etc.

Imagine she's "Mary-Jane" from a Texas trailer park and she's married "Hasbulla" from Bradford:

"They got so funny when I started cooking bacon in the kitchen, apparently that's against their rules."

"Lol, his sisters and his mum wear these strange cloth things on their heads."

"I went to the mosque with them and I didn't know we had all this different protocol to follow, we had to use a different entrance, then they wash their feet... I'd already had a shower that morning it was so strange, then we had to do these funny bows on our knees like this..."

You don't get qualified to fly an apache and be a bit thick. I've got 2 mates who are commercial helicopter pilots and both are very intelligent and they told me what was involved in getting qualified and type rated. Both said it was hard, very hard. And that isn't even an apache, they didn't have to think about weapons systems or being shot out of the sky.

Do you think his qualities in piloting an apache for the army are shining through in civvy life, selling gossip for a living.

Look I think the whole thing is pathetic tbh. And I mean that from all sides. The Firm have the tabloid press on their side as its attack dogs and they have been attacking his wife since the wedding, though I'm not saying those attacks had anything to do with The Firm. Since they broke away they are been relentless and I've no doubt there are figures within the Royal household that are working with and encouraging these attacks. Harry and Meghan are fighting back in a way they think can work. I'm not sure what their endgame is, maybe they just want to cause as much damage to the institution as they can, on that I sympathise as I'd do away with the whole thing tomorrow.

Do you think members of the Royal household weren't/aren't providing dirt to the tabloids? They might not be doing it for hard cash but its just the same, they are protecting their life of privilege.

As for the tabloid press, well I would stand back and smile if their businesses burnt to the ground, they are a scourge on this country, scum that serve themselves and will ruin any life for money. **** them.

Yeah, you can, tests for pilot selection are more about hand/eye coordination, not failing the medical, having good eyesight, having limbs the correct size etc.. You don't actually need to be an officer to fly in the Army either.

He went to one of the best and most expensive schools in the country and came away with just two A-levels; a B in Art and D in Geography, so he met the bare minimum education requirements to become an officer it's pretty obvious why he didn't go to university!

There is also the allegation that he cheated, officially he didn't and was cleared by an exam board but it certainly seems like a lot of help was given to the point that the art teacher referred to it in an employment tribunal against Eton:

During the ensuing unfair dismissal hearing, Ms Forsyth claimed she was bullied by staff, and that she was a victim of sexual discrimination. She also said she was asked by the college's head of art, Ian Burke, to help Harry with the written submission to accompany his artworks. She claimed she had a tape of a conversation between herself and the prince which backed her claim.

In its judgment which criticised the school's senior management, the tribunal said: "It is clear whichever version of the evidence is accepted that Mr Burke did ask the claimant to assist Prince Harry with text for his expressive art project ... It is not part of this tribunal's function to determine whether or not it was legitimate."

Yesterday, Ms Forsyth's lawyer, Anthony Sakrouge of Russell-Cooke, said his client was "content that the settlement that has been agreed reflects the fact that she was unfairly treated".

Would he have got that B if not for the extra help? Would he have got anything if he'd gone to a bog standard school/6th form?

IIRC while on his commissioning course he managed to get caught on tape referring to a Pakistani officer cadet by an ethnic slur (ironically though he won an anti-racism award this year).

The regiment he initially got into was, realistically, 100% down to who he was also getting a secondment as a pilot in the first place is quite blatantly likely to be down to who he was too (in part because his previous operational tour was cut short and that offered a different means).

The published reasons for him not staying on were things like him not wanting a desk job, always planning to quit to look after family etc.. but realistically promotion to Captain is almost automatic and doesn't require a board... beyond that though mid-career officers are expected to attend things like intermediate staff college etc.. and that's getting a bit like attending a university.

Or more succinctly being in the highest echelons of the British Royal family gives mega clout and pulls multiple strings.... ;)
