Has Anyone Moved From Nvidia To Amd And Not Regretted It

I went from a 3070 OC that was running out of vram when gaming to a 7900GRE and it'a been a very good move. I have had zero problems with the card or the drivers. The card is powerful but very quiet and just eats through anything I throw at it at 1440p. Power consumption is something AMD really need to get on top of but I decreased it a good chunk by undervolting the card (did the same on the 3070).

Have no desire for any brand loyalty **** abd buy what I deiced to be the best option for me at any given time. Just dropped in a Reference / OEM RX 7900 GRE into my system after going backwards and forwards on either it or the 4070 Super. Fancied tinkering with the GRE and memory overclocking and here we are. I have ~5 months remaining of the half price GFN Ultimate tier if I fancy cranking RT in CP2077 so not fussed with that.

So far the card is quiet (specifically no coil whine), overclocks to 2600 on the memory without an issue and gets within spitting distance of a stock 7900XT so I am quite happy. Extra bonus it has no lighting / RGB / Rainbow barf whatsoever.... even better!

Oh GRE never even thought of that one as I only really play at 1440p and will do but gonna upgrade to a 240hz monitor from my 144hz after Christmas ill have a read up on that one now.

Went from a 3080ti to a 7800XT (less watts ,and I sold the 3080ti for the same price) and I don't regret it one bit. It's actually faster overclocked, quieter, and I don't care about RT right now until the 5000 series

7900xtx is basically a 3900?

So about a whole gen behind Nvidia, if you don't care about ray tracing go AMD I guess.

Not that there's really many games doing RT anyway.

Over the last 12 years, I've used:
Radeon 7950 -> Radeon 7990 quadfire -> GTX 1080ti -> RTX 3080 -> RX 7900XT

N=1, but personally, I can't say that I've had any issues with either Team Red or Green
I would base my decision more on what each has to offer than blindly picking a side

3090? the 7900XTX is way faster,even a 4070 Super is at 1440p
in ray tracing performance it's basically a 3090, which is why I said if you don't care about ray tracing go AMD, if you do then NVIDIA current gen is the only option

click the above link to see what individual games the above stats are based on

4080 seems the same price as a 7900xtx even, seem like a no brainer? unless people care about the extra memory.
The memory doesn't seem to matter yet, Cyberpunk RT 4k 7090xtx - 20fps, 4080 -30fps

40fps vs 60fps at 1440p /w RT

60fps you could probably game happy at without turning down settings, 40fps is a slideshow and you'd be forced to sacrifice graphics or turn RT off

I don't see why anyone would choose a 7900xtx over a 4080
unless their case can't fit a 4080, even if it's a tight fit I'm guessing the 4080 runs about as cool as the 4090 does.

although in that scenario your case ambient temps might end up being 35c if it doesn't have good airflow :P as the backplate gets toasty warm

Used both over the years and had no problems apart from horrific coil whine which was a power supply problem. When I have had driver problems it’s always been windows update causing problems.

Sold my 4090 for a decent amount and got a 7900XTX for pretty cheap with some cash left over, No regrets, Plays everything I want it to with good performance.

I'm not too fussed about RT, Even when I had the 4090 I just didn't care much outside of enabling it for 5 minutes, Saying "ooh shiny" then turning it off :D

Drivers have been largely smooth sailing.

I can honestly say ive never enabled RT on my 3070ti so ill not miss it.

I already use MSI afterburner on my Nvidia and pretty good setting profiles up so basically I can use the same program brilliant thanks for that info.

Do not use 3rd party apps like MSI on AMD GPUs. It is pointless and can cause more problems than they solve. AMD adrenaline built in app is much better and much more flexible. It’s far better functionality and tweakability than Nvidia.

There is also no “dialling in” required to get AMD stable, that is just what everyone else calls “tweaking to taste”. Even a basic uninstall of the Nvidia drivers and app is enough to do a swap between vendors. Hell I have been switching between my 4080 and 7900 XT for testing without even removing either set of drivers and they both just work. Use DDU to do a clean uninstall from safe mode if you insist but it’s kind of more a precaution than absolute necessity.

1. Uninstall Nvidia GPU drivers
2. Uninstall 3rd party apps such as AB.
3. Shut down PC and swap GPUs
4. Power up into Windows
5. Install AMD GPU drivers
6. Play games.

You can use AMD adrenaline to tweak fan curves or voltages and power use if you want.

Going back a little while I moved from a 1080Ti to a Red Devil LTD 6800XT. Initially I was very pleased with the differences and I also very much enjoyed the drivers, in terms of their layout.
But, in the end I went back to Nvidia due to the games I played at the time. Some of the Indie titles were quite problematic for me, not really much help from the AMD forums.
I had around a fortnight to make my mind up on keeping or refunding, hence the refund.
If I had only played the AAA titles that I had tested all would have been good and it would probably have been keeper.
So, it can depend, I suppose, on the games that are played and whether the yare supported better under one platform or the other.
In that respect I have always found Nvidia the preferred option, for me.
Even tho I saw much better VFM, well of late, with what AMD had to offer.

Running a 4070 and a 79XTX, drivers are fine on both of them, would have stayed on NV at the high end if it wasn't for the lack of vram on the 4080 and the £200+ more expensive at the time.

But the move over to AMD has been smooth.

I'll echo @ICDP and would advise not using AB with Adrenaline as they conflict and a simple uninstall of NV drivers is the way to go, only use driver cleaners if necessary.
