has anyone used digital rev?

UK warranty is only a year anyway. The way I looked at it was that it was a £400 savings, new shutter costs £210.

I could get 2 new shutter in the first 12 months for the amount saved and after 12 months it is even ground no matter where it came from.

Well that is one way of looking at it! And bloody hell £210 :D I can just scrap £400 together for a flash.

Looking at loans atm ....

Nooo. Look at it in a way that the most likely part to fail is the shutter so money saved will cover you for 2 shutters.

Seeing a shutter should last 250k so it's good odds against it failing in the first year.

:o smeg ...... well lets hope that it doesn't fail that quick!

DR £60 cheaper than Amazon seems a no brainier really

If you only has it mounted on the hotshoe, it is no different than any other Canon EX Flashlights in use. It cycles faster, it still takes 4 AA, it is built better, but most notably it has a nicer UI.

It comes alive when you have the trigger or another 600EX-RT. That is the attractive aspect of the flash.

It links up very easily, and because of the menus are much easier to use, once you get your bearing rounds how things are labelled and where they are, you can start doing funky things like make the off camera flash with more power (1:2 ratio) or less (2:1) ratio.

If you have 2 off camera flashes then you can have them in different groups, and yet again you can play with the ratios. At all times they are talking to each other, telling each other's battery status, recharge cycle so to ensure they all go off or not at all.

All this is done with ETTL.

I do plan at some point going wireless with it and pick up another 600 or 580ex ii but atm it will just be on hotshoe

Might get this for transmitter: http://thephotogadget.com/en/content/yongnuo-yn-622-wireless-ttl-flash-trigger

With regards to triggers, I ordered the Canon trigger and then cancelled it after having some thoughts. The reason being that you are paying like 2/3 of the price of a 600EX-RT without the flash. You can always get another 600EX-RT and turn the flash off and use it as a trigger. Plus the on camera flash will at as fill light while the off camera flash as the kicker or rim light.

The Canon trigger doesn't have an hotshoe on top for you to mount another flash, otherwise it would be useful to use a older 580EX for example.

Unless you want to save that little bit of cash and don't want the weight, or that you are in a studio and have enough flashes to provide fill as well, I wouldn't get the trigger.

I also wouldn't get a 3rd party trigger, there would be no point. You already have an excellent one built in, you will be by passing the Canon one and using a 3rd party one...if you already have a few existing IR only flashes then I would understand but you have a 600EX-RT so use what you already paid for. If you don't then for the same money, a few 430EX with some triggers would do the same thing.

Also, I wouldn't get a 580EX as another flash, it will ruin the whole point of getting a 600EX-RT. The 580EX is IR only, the 600EX-RT is radio and IR. For the 600 to communicate with the 580, it will need to be in IR mode, so direct line of sight is required, meaning you might as well bought two 580EX to begin with. You are not using the best feature of the 600EX-RT, the radio trigger.

You can always use an ETTL Cable.

It's a great and cheap way of getting the flash off camera without having to buy a remote trigger. You can even get really long cables so you can have it at a distance and still retain ETTL.

Thanks Raymond and Nexus!

Both good posts! :)

Slowly waiting for Jessops to comeback Shaken, but now sites like DR + others i think will still kill it.

Bought an S3 from Digital Rev.

Won't ever buy anything from them ever again. People keep going on about the warranty etc but have they ever sent anything back to them?

My S3 has a clear defect on the lower 1/4 of the screen where it is a very noticeably darker shade than the top 3/4. This becomes very annoying when looking at white backgrounds (most websites).

I contacted them - arranged to send back the defective phone. This was all done at MY expense - nearly £50 DHL registered post!

They received the phone and examined it and then sent the exact same phone back to me... ALL without telling me they were doing so.
When I questioned them they said they found nothing wrong with the phone and refused to refund my postage costs.

I eventually managed to get pictures of my S3 side by side with another S3 highlighting just how bad the issue was and they still refused to accept it.

Steer clear - just buy from a UK reseller.

I guess they are ok if nothing goes wrong but if it does...

No, it's the one beginning with a P.

Just thought it's interesting about the HUGE price hike whilst Digital Rev's prices have stayed relatively stable.

Canon 17-40 f4 L - £539 Digital Rev, £631 at P.

Nikon 70-200 F4 - £1,019 DR, £1,151 at P.

Nikon D800 - £1,929 at DR, £2,020 at P.

I'm glad I got my D7000 from them when I did. Paid £512 inc delivery about 2 months ago and now its £669. That's a hefty increase for no apparent reason.

I hope jessops come back, at the time I got my D5100 you couldn't get it cheaper anywhere else in uk and when spending that sort of money im not getting a grey import, I want piece of mind

Must have been me then but everything seemed overpriced.

Still have a £20 voucher to use :( which i think is kia now since its online only for now.

The Courier service they use is ridiculously quick. The only let down for me when I bought my 5D from them was that the Driver couldn't see the reception guy at my building and didn't bother to try my buzzer, even though I was in. So I had to wait the weekend out for them to come back. Was a shame given how quick the service had been up until then.
