Has making a pass at a woman just become illegal?

For a not insignificant number of cases there will be evidence, or witnesses and in those such cases, law(s) like this still have the capacity to help catch / prevent a more serious crime from being perpetrated later on (stalking / assault etc..).
I'm sorry what? This law won't do that (the bolded section). The only thing this law might do is reduce the amount wolf whistling that happens in this country. That's it. But i'm pretty certain that is on the downward trend anyway.

And what negative does it impose on your life to enact a law that tries to help prevent people(predominantly men) from acting like a creepy letch towards others?

If you don't go around acting like a creepy letch, where and how exactly does this law impact you?

*Edit* The very fact we need laws to prevent people (mainly men) from acting in such a manner says a lot more about the state of men's minds, tbh.

Strawman and insult wrapped into a neat little post. Pathetic.

I was asking you (genuinely) what impact such a law would have on your life. (or presumably any other law-abiding citizen with decent morals) There was and is no Strawman.

What I asked, was no different to asking "if you drive everywhere speeding (or drunk), where and how do speed limits (or Drink Driving laws) impact you in a negative way?"

You seem to have misconstrue this as some kind of veiled insult whereby I am somehow calling you a perv, Believe me, it was not. :)

The point was to attempt to portray the fact that the majority of our laws are by their very nature designed to (hopefully) only negatively impact those who actively take part in an activity or behaviour that has been deemed "illegal".

I apologize if you thought I was accusing you of being a creep :) :)

I'm more of a chip butty man myself. :)

Talking of stupid women I'd been married about 20 years when my wife was working hard in the garden so I decided to go to the Chippie and make her some chip butties.
She wouldn't even take them off me saying "How long have we been together (26 years at that point), I hate the thought of buttered bread with chips on" :)

I cannot remember the last time I saw a bloke wolf whistle a woman.
Also fairly certain this law in broader terms is a waste of paper. He said she said.
Seems like a rushed job to keep certain happy while not actually helping the people it was meant for.

Who gets to decide if its creepy or not? Don't get me wrong I'm all for not being an ahole to people in general whether its misogyny or misandry, I just don't see how something so subjective can be enforced.

Drink driving or speeding have very effective ways of determining if you are on the wrong side of it, saying something the wrong way or looking at someone for too long doesn't.

I like your style, it sure beats picking up a spade and helping her :)

I'm not quite sure I want to find out what Whitchurch's answer to Hyacinth Bucket here would say to chip butties on the lawn, I might it try for a laugh one day ;)

This was from 5 years ago, quite interesting. You have one woman arguing that she doesn't mind wolf whistling, even going as far as going back around if she didn't get the attention, and someone saying its sexual harassment, who even seems to be arguing against her own point.

I don't believe you are genuine but I will play along.

My issue on this law is on the first or second page. It is not a crime deserving of jail time. Let alone the time, resources, man power and money to prosecute. It is ridculous that time and money was spent to create a law that targets an inappropriate act that is on the decline as far as I am aware.

Our justice system is already struggling and police resources are stretched thin. Thieves are so brazen as to preform criminal acts in broad daylight infront of multiple witnesses because they have no fear of prosecution. How about we spend time and money targerting things that actually matter and that actually makes a difference for the population at large. And I'm not talking about prosecuting people for "offensive" memes, which is also a massive joke.

Let's also not pretend that a law like this won't get abused. False witnesses and allegations are a thing.

If this saves just 1 or 2 lives from being destroyed because a would-be stalker gets caught early, it's WELL worth the minor inconvenience it may pose to everyone else.

What about the 1 or 2 lives destroyed because of false allegations which result in criminal records and a lifetime of persecution because of it? Inconvenience is one thing, but "better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer" and all that...

False allegations have always been a thing.

I'm not quite sure how the false allegation of "he wolf whistled at me repeatedly" or "he would not stop asking for my number and kept staring at me all night" are quite as damning as say.... false allegations of rape?

I wonder if you would feel the same way if it was your son or daughter who suffered at the hands of one of those "ten guilty persons" who escaped justice, to protect the one who suffered a false allegation?

*edit* Also, is it not the purpose of the Police and Legal system to determine if something was a false allegation or not? rather than letting guilty people go free because someone might make a false allegation?

At least such a law will rule out taking claims of wolf whistling and overt ogling seriously from all but the fittest bints. Around here that probably leaves about ten who could have such an accusation taken seriously unless the alleged perpetrator had a white stick and a guide dog.

They don't need to be as damning to still cause damage.

I wonder if you would feel the same way if it was your son or daughter who suffered at the hands of a baying mob, lost their job, family and everything else, and ultimately took their own life because of the endless persecution, to protect someone from being made to feel a bit uncomfortable.

See, I can use appeal to emotion as well :p

There are already laws in place to protect people from actual sexual harassment. I'm not condoning wolf-whistling or similar, I think its extremely crass and disrespectful, but laws like this which are very much open to interpretation make me a bit uneasy.

Yes, because of course the law is infallible, and nobody ever got wrongly found guilty...

Besides, as I posted earlier in the thread, you don't need to be found guilty for an accusation to stick.

I wonder how many times this law will actually be used.

With rape crime convictions or even being taken to court being so low, then this law is going to have to rely on a witness to join the case otherwise it's going to be an he said she said.
