Haswell -E Core i7-5960X, 5930K, 5820K specifications

Serious business is PC hardware. I used to get angry about tech once, I think it was PSX v N64 when I was about 11.

As I already said, not angry just very well informed and able to see through marketing.

If there were more people like me we'd be getting 12 core CPUs now, in realistic motherboard packages.

Mind you, what am I saying? there's as serious recession going on now so Intel will only have a tiny little market to sell this over priced stuff to any way.

So tbh? things will change regardless of people being informed.

I'd like to see something actually new, and, designed for a desktop socket. Not too much to ask really is it?

Wasn't really aimed at anyone in particular but given that you responded ;)
12 core would be great, 8 of them could remain redundant whilst the game devs plays catch up.
Obviously not everyone buys a PC to game with but I expect most on here do.

hehe true that !

Still, at least now that Intel are releasing an 8 core CPU, then like you say we may see higher core use.

Sadly though? they've put it in a ridiculously expensive set up, so it's not going to be mainstream again.

Even the 5820k, which seems great value, will be lost in high board and memory prices. Which is a shame, because that means that yeah, we're all still stuck on 4 cores mainstream.

*sigh*

You totally misunderstand how it all works.

Hynix, as well as a couple of other memory manufacturers make the memory. They then deal with companies like Corsair, Gskill etc who order specific spec memory.

Then they take them to their factory, stick on fancy stickers and heatsinks and then rebox them as "Enthusiast" parts and charge a premium for it.

That's what I said.

It is quite simple. If you are not happy then don't buy.

ALX Andy I am the only one who does the willy waving around here!!!

Andy you have 1900+ Ti or 1600 + 290x?? DDR3 2720 C6, 6.5 Haswell or 6250 4930K? Thought not!!

Lets now get on to talking about the new X99 Platform and the CPU's.

:D

I almost bought TIs, but the vram scared me off. Shame, as I was about to pull the trigger on a pair of Kingpins.

Shame Nvidia have monopolised the vram sector on their cards.. If you want a 6gb card it's 780 or Titan black or nothing, MIIIIIH ! :D

I don't break records dude, I just play games :D

You contradict yourself many times in this thread. One minute you say an 8320 is a great chip then you say you wouldn't put two Titan Blacks with it?

If it was so great then why not?

I don't think he even realizes that he contradicts himself.. As fun as reading ALXAndy having a breakdown over AMD chips is..

Do ya'll think we could get back on topic now?

For those interested in X99 what chip do you think you will go for and why?

is this new chip worth it if 90% of all games are capped to 60fps....and run on only 2 cores, maybe 3 maximum?????
it's the GPU that does most of the work

Shhhhhh. Boom will just claim he's more clever than you and get all upset you tried to rain on his parade.

G-sync, Freesync. Both should fix that unless the game is like NFS : The Rivals and hard coded to 30 FPS.

But alas, it's a good point. All you need to make sure you do now is match the PS4 as closely as you can. Lots of vram, lots of cores, even if they're smelly AMD ones.

This thread is not for the sensible, nor are the products contained within. If the 5820k was 1150 it would be, but of course how could Intel do such a thing?

I'd rather have the 8 core, 6 cores feels old tech. But I'll prolly be priced out on these CPU's. I'm expecting them to the start around £360'ish.

Arnt the x99 8 cores downclocked very low? 3ghz starting? I think id rather go with the higher clocked 5930 tbh. Saying that the cpu that i have now does me well so i wont be buying any x99 tbh.

I wish they would get the cpu`s on to the shelves so we can find out if its going to be worth the cost of upgrading or just sticking with what we have.

what i'll do is upgrade yet again in 2 to 3 years time and keep an eye on AMD

i've upgraded enough already to see me through for the next few years, likewise; anyone who is looking for an upgrade on what we have right now, would be better off focusing on the next generation of top end GPUs due out next year, because that'll give you what you need.

i'd be very wary of this CPU, i'd wait to hear all the reviews first...........someone said ``8 cores will be redundant until the developers catch up``..........yea :D:D you wont need more than 4 cores for gaming only for another 4 years....please note i said gaming only. i had a quick look yesterday and this cpu looks like a rebranded Xeon ( Intel Xeon E5-2650v2 2.60GHz 8-Core )...... i bet you it's that one, if so forget it

finally, if you are getting this DDR4 then you may as well go for Dual cards as well, because it aint worth having all of this expensive/semi redundant gear, if you're only going to spend 500 quid on a GPU :D

I'm still using an i7 920, it pretty much handles most things for me but its long overdue a refresh so I think I'll go for the cheapest option which will be the 5820k. I'm hoping the bells and whistles from Z97 is moved to the X99 so that's my main reason for upgrading, as I want usb3, msata etc

The overall problem is that Intel leave things no better than they are now. What I mean is, hex cored Intels are not mainstream because of the price. That means no one will develop anything more than enterprise apps, given they are sold as enterprise CPUs. If you were looking to build a 'cheap' workstation then the SBE and IBE chips are pretty darn cheap, just like the Titan is compared to the Tesla or whatever it's called now days.

Just when I thought Intel were going to release a relatively cheap 6 core into the market (ignoring the board and ram cost, I'm talking about the 5820k btw) I spotted their new trick.

Lane rationing...

If they can't lock the multi, or derp the BCLK like they do on Xeons, or ration out the turbo multi they can simply disable PCIE lanes. The 5820k has X16 X8 X4, meaning no triple SLI and a derped SLI. That means it will only appeal to those with one GPU, useless to those with more.

But Intel are great ! who's getting one? wow they're amazing ! every one grovel !

That, my friend, is a c u next tuesday's trick. Yet Intel are amazing OMG quick buy one.

You know, as pants as people think AMD are, at least they don't do things like that to railroad people onto their more expensive products. Hell, in the past they've even left cores to be unlocked and shaders to be unlocked.

A world where Intel dominate isn't very nice really.

x16 x8 x4 is not that bad, last I heard running SLI at x8 is hardly noticable over x16

Yea, same boat here, still using my 920 from 2008.

Looking forward to a hexcore upgrade on x99 :) Many of the games I actively play have been updated to support more CPU cores, including BF4, WoW (the expansion uses all cores/threads), crysis3 etc.

Should be quite a huge upgrade.

Didn't know WoW supported it, that's great news, thanks.
