***Haswell -E Owners Thread***

The 5820k is a fantastic CPU at a very appealing price, ruined because of the prices of DDR4.

+1 to this, DDR4 price is a bit of a pity, because otherwise there is hardly anything in the price between this and a Z97 setup.

I guess the only consolation with buying DDR4 is that you're buying into something that will become the new standard, so in it's longevity will still mean you get your moneys worth of use out if it.

For those looking for DDR3, there will 32GB kit going on MM very soon :D

ALX shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

Why would an X99 rig owner using two cards be doing 1080p??

Get yourself a decent X99 rig then play your games!! posting here NO NEED!!! Infact posting at all NO NEED!!

:D

Not sure my UD4 is stable - keeps on giving errors on random restarts (A2 and B4) in the corner during the BIOS splash screen that I cant find any reference too.

this is a system that has just had Win8.1 installed fresh , and checked the RAM which appears good at this point and BIOS has been updated to latest version (f7)

(As far as I can see neither error is mentioned on the Gigabyte website or in either manual).
From the UD5 manual:

A2 - Detect and install all currently connected IDE drives
B4 - USB device hot plug-in

Not sure that'll apply to the UD4, but it could well do.

Besides the fact he's not used the platform and using early launch performance on unoptimised drivers as a way of saying "I was right".

Yawn. Make a case by using your own testing. I'm willing to wager a 5930 could out perform an x79 setup very, very easily.

Absolute face palmage

sounds weird reason to fail boot up but will look in bios along those lines (and only usb devices I have plugged in are keyboard and mouse which makes it doubly weird, but anyway)

Thanks

Only it doesn't. I can only go from what I've read. It's not my fault that the drivers could be crap or anything else.

The only issue I can see with X99 is early bioses and DDR4. There are always countless issues at launch running on early bioses because the board manus are unable to make their boards run hardware they don't yet have.

What you don't seem to realise is that the actual CPU running in X99 is nothing but a die shrunk X79 CPU. So working it out is easy. You take a 2500k, 3570k and a 4690k and you do the maths. Add two cores, round off your percentages and then work it out.

I said that if Haswell E doesn't clock any better than the X79 equivalents any improvements will be lost due to overall clocks.

Still, I await any improvements.

Stop clogging the owners thread with your inexperience. It's hurting my eyes.

I'll gladly show you many submissions from the platform and compare them to my old results if it makes you feel any better when I'm up and running.

Seriously though, this is the owners thread. It's not for cynical hypothetical pixel dribble

Incidentally I get to see a couple of those codes flickering on the screen as well during POST - they're not necessarily erorrs, just the BIOS showing you where it's at with the POST. If they stay on the screen for more than a second though there could be something wrong!

They mirror the codes displayed on the UD5's LED code display.

I need to ask...How much do you believe im losing on my crossfire 290 setup with a motherboard that only supports one 16x 3.0 lane and then the second lane is x4 2.0....
Im also running 3440x1440 res here aswell which I would imagine is making it even more of an issue...

Runs smoothly in most games but I do get stutters in certain games and wonder if that's the cause..and also how many fps I would be losing with that setup and if its worth upgrading to a x99 and cpu.

Yeah you want to try and avoid X4 if possible tbh. I ran it once (X16 X4 hacked SLI) and I lost between nothing and 20%. Benchmarks seemed OK, but games really took a hit.

AMD only let you run Crossfire on X4 because it's usually when you have four GPUs running and it's only the last one being crippled.

well I THINK I have found the issue - my br reader was plugged into an sSata port rather than a standard one, and these errors went away (was relieved it was the br rather than the ssd causing it, didn't want to re-install windows and everything else lol)

Codes certaining disappeared from one reboot, but will keep an eye for the next few days

Still think its strange that on some boots it was fine and booted into Win8.1 ok and on other boots it was fatal (ie failed to get past bios splash screen), but hey ho

Thank you again, now attempting Catalyst Control Centre for the 3rd time lol

Edit - nope, still have A2 (stays on screen for several seconds including a multicoloured box below it) message - drat

Bid you gents farewell for a bit, gonna be offline for probably at least a week. House move, no internet until it gets switched over lol. Hopefully when I get back on there will be some nice pics and benchmark from you guys.

See y'all later (:
