***Haswell -E Owners Thread***

First play with i5960X with 16GB G.Skill DDR4 3000MHz memory for a quick overclock:

Identical spec to mine (CPU/MB and RAM) albeit I'm still waiting on the RAM.

What cooling are you using and what temps? I have 2x480 plus 1x240 to cool just the CPU and one R290 so I will be looking to see what I can get out of the CPU at say 1.35 volts max.

Kangaxx your not using IBT properly as your ram setting is on 'standard' and it wont be stressing out your cpu, hence your temps are low.

You need to set it to the maximum setting mate to stress your cpu correctly. Your GFlops rating will also be much higher too.

;)

Kangaxx - Is the CPU throttling? 54 Gflops seems awfully low, even my 2700K (8 threads) at 4.5Ghz gets 95 on 1Mb test.

No, i think that was due to me attempting to do other things while it was benching. I have now settled at 1.2 volts with a clock of 4.3 ghz. I have re-run the bench, and its now showing an average of 141 Gflops.

Take it easy buddy and good luck with the move! :)

Ditto - c ya soon Boom.

Mark

Cheers guys :)

Move was stressful lol, didn't realise we had so much stuff, but the new house is much bigger and better. We're pretty much sorted with the layout but still no internet here !

With no internet might as well be living in a cave :D They think it will be on by Tuesday next week.

Found some time to put together my X99 stuff, build went together without a hitch, everything up and running fine. I'm running the 1st revision bios and have just seen there is a turbo fix in the latest 'f8b' beta, so will update to this later when I'm back home. Once I'm plugged back into the tinternet I'll get to benching. Saw Frosty's scores, looks very impressive !

I've noticed the same with IBT, it likes to be the only thing running - not surprising really. 141 Gflops is a great result even in comparison to the 5960X :D.

I've been reading this thread with interest and trying to find a reason to justify an upgrade, but as I 90% of my usage is gaming I don't think it's worth it for me.

Cheers guys :)

Hi Boomstick,

Glad to hear the move went ok, just curious what x99 setup did you go for?
I am tempted by either Rampage v or the deluxe - thoughts.

Welcome back buddy, well almost!

Still waiting for my board to arrive! But once that does, time to be top with my 3 290x's ;)

Do you guys think its worth waiting for these faster DDR4 memory sticks to arrive?

Don't even overclock really but perhaps in future, just considering that standard 17000 Crucial Ram or is it still worth waiting for the faster ram to come in stock considering price difference is not much in some places at least!

Its killing me the wait !

Gets worse when your on an pathetic PC with 2gig of ram.

I noticed uks your old cpu and stuff went for sale well on MM so why not eh ;)

I think I am set to go 5930K/Asus X99 bundle while £300 more then going 4790k/Z97 route its complete future proofed if worst came to worst or it will hold greater resell value right before skylake or skylake E in 2016+.

My rampage extreme has finally been shipped! Sadly I'm not at home until after tomorrow so won't be fitting until Saturday :)

Yeah managed to shift it all in the end, I'm of the same thinking, this new system should see me through for a few years at least with just gpu upgrades.

Can't wait to get it all installed!

Does 2133mhz vs 2400mhz RAM make that much difference outside of benchmarks really?
The price difference is quite a lot.

In most games ram speed makes minimal difference.

Price wise I have noticed some places are very expensive but looking around not much price difference over the lowest to say the 3000mhz ram, ie more then affordable.

Yeah am sure not much difference or anything that can be seen even its for this reason am tempted to just place the order now but ideally would be great to wait 2-3 weeks for better ram to hit stock and perhaps add an Nvidia GPU into basket too.
