***Haswell -E Owners Thread***

Take it easy buddy and good luck with the move! :)

Ditto - c ya soon Boom.

Mark

Cheers guys :)

Move was stressful lol, didn't realise we had so much stuff, but the new house is much bigger and better. We're pretty much sorted with the layout but still no internet here !

With no internet might as well be living in a cave :D They think it will be on by Tuesday next week.

Found some time to put together my X99 stuff, build went together without a hitch, everything up and running fine. I'm running the 1st revision bios and have just seen there is a turbo fix in the latest 'f8b' beta, so will update to this later when I'm back home. Once I'm plugged back into the tinternet I'll get to benching. Saw Frosty's scores, looks very impressive !

Got my 5820K @ 4.4Ghz stable for benching. Thinking these early bios so far aren't the best. I'm expecting better results on later bios.

4.0Ghz for 24/7 clock. Only need +0.050v on the volts to get this. Very impressed so far tbh.

The H105 is an excellent cooler, idle temps 26c, load temps don't go over 65c.

Got my 780Ti under Antec Kuhler 920 and temps are great, helps having a metal brace already installed to cool the VRM etc, very considerate of MSI :D

Still no internet at home ! Some problem activating the broadband, looking at Friday to be connected now. Then I can get some proper benching done..

This is slightly of topic but relevant I think :P The nice thing about having a H105 on my 5820K, is that my Kuhler 920 was free to use on my GPU. MSI fit a nice metal plate to cool VRM etc. Which is handy..

So whip that cooler right off..

Lovely score for 5820k :-)
I am still nowhere near building the system, waiting for suplies to build my case :-)
And EVGAboards will come to UK soon, so I am returning MSI board and waiting patiently.

Cheers bud. Good luck with your build.

Fresh install of windows, things seem better, but still having issues accessing the bios :(

Pressing DEL on post results in a quick screen flash with A9 in the corner, then a blackscreen.

Anyone else had this issue with the UD4?

Yeah, the joys of new motherboard early bioses. I'm on 'F9a' seems to be the best so far. I have to frantically press 'del' on reboot to get into the bios :p It'll get better.

Boom are you using strap (125) to overclock? have you noticed any issues playing games or benchmarking?

The issue i have is that while using strap 125 helps me overclock, if i run any benchmarks like firestrike etc, on the gpu test it crashes :(

No mate, to get to 4.5Ghz I just change the multi to 4.5 on all cores, +0.200v on the auto voltage, + 1.15 vring. Then a little bump on the other voltages.

Found the sweet spot for my setup.

Leave all settings on default 'Optimized'.

Then change all cores turbo to > 4.4Ghz.

Then just set voltage to 'normal' +0.0200v.

Gives up to 1.35v.

No need to change anything else !

Awesome :D

IntelBurnTest all cores under 80c.

Just had some major instability, even when going back to default optimized settings. Seems to have calmed down now lol. Had to power off for a bit. Everything back at stock. Think I'll only OC for benching.

Seems to like the memory at default setting rather than XMP.

I'm sure these teething probs will be worked out with later bios updates.

So, my big question at the moment is......5820k or 5930k?
I do a fair bit of rendering and game content creation so I will benefit from the extra cores over a z97 system. However, the likelihood of my going for more than 2x GPU's is pretty much non-existant. I probably won't even go crossfire at all (I've done it in the past and was very impressed) however, a single R9 290 should do me for the type of gaming I'm into.

I'm guessing, the 5820k is the one for me since I won't miss the additional PCI lanes of the 5930k? Also means I'll be able to put some faster RAM into the budget.

Thoughts?

If you're only using one or two GPU's 5820K is ideal. Saves a lot of money over the 5930K and performance is epic.

My ud4 isnt even stable enough to flash to f9a bios

It reads the new bios file in about two minutes ( possibly a little slow but not too bad) but its the writing of the bios where it draamatically slows down, something like 3% every minute or so, nd I havent managed to get it past 20% before it restarted itself ( and messed up the main bios in the process)

In windows its ok for an hour or two, but have given up the bios upgrade after 3 failed upgrade attemps.

I dont think this board is stable enough for production with all the issues Ive had.

Am going back to my Haswell i5 /z77

Make sure everything is at default before you try and flash? Maybe even down-clock the memory to lower setting, then put back to normal after you flash?

My best so far @4.5, memory 2666mhz

TGn2ZxY.jpg.png

Now trying the same but with the mem @2800 and tighter timings.

Very nice !

I've settled on 4.0Ghz for 24/7 use. 4.5Ghz for benching. Using very high to make sure it's stable, fan speeds set to low (1200).

Settings are,

Auto voltage + 0.050v
Ring V set to 1.15
Slight bump on other voltages.
Memory at default speed 1066mhz.
