So I decided to buy a 5930k and Rampage board, I am pretty impressed so far and achieved my goal of a 4.5ghz OC. (1.274v)

Small images, however they are visable!

Need to update sig aswell...

Hi guys, I joined the club yesterday building my 5820k. After some advice on overclocking it, I'll be happy with 4ghz, running a h110 for cooling! Was just going to use oc genie on board but any help would be great!

Cheers

Hi, I've noticed a few strange things since installing the additional 16GB ram and xp941:

Quad channel no longer shows (and all the RAM is matched) - weird or a quirk in the program?

I could find no options in the BIOS that related to the booting off the m.2, however after cloning the xp941 gives a decent bench in AS SSD:

But in HD Tach the Burst speed is pants - should I be bothered?:

I'm using Beta BIOS H.51 for the X99S Gaming 7 - I got this direct from MSI, but to be honest I couldn't tell what they have fixed and no change log was included.

push/pull will only drop you 2-4c max

running 5930k here at 4.0ghz 1.176v idle running at 28c.. on air

your water temps look a bit high (for water of course)

Ive just updated my X99-UD4 to F9E and i now have an unknown device called PCI Data acquisition and signal processing controller.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Scott

FYI (and all other UD4 users) p24 of the manual states "When you overclock the CPU, make sure to connect one end of the included 1 to 3 power cable to the ATX_12V_2*4 power connector and the other three to the power supply to ensure the system is provided with enough power"

I hadn't come across one of these 1 to 3 power cable's before which is why I asked. It may well not be necessary just putting it here for feedback , experience reasons (and also to prove to myself I didn't imagine it :) )

I haven't used it yet, but Im also not going to be pushing my setup until I get a CPU water cooler at the end of the month (and hopefully some longer 2*4 / 8 pin cables).

Any more thoughts on this 6 weeks on? I cant see the point of it at all if its coming from a good power supply with a single big 12v rail?
Thanks
Scott

This post says different...

I was struggling to get over 4.2ghz on my 5820k, even with ridiculous voltages of 1.280+

Turns out you really need to use that 3 - 1, 8 pin adapter for the CPU (was included with my SOCFORCE Mobo)

I'm using 2x 8 pin connectors and have been stable for the past 3 hours on 4.4, v1.263 and ram at 2666mhz on a noctua d15.

Also helps to turn load line calibration to TURBO.

Anybody here gone from 2600k to 5820k? If so, was it worth it?

I've got an upgrade itch, but £800 is a lot to upgrade if there's little improvement.

I went from a 2500k to what I've got in my Sig. Depends on what you determine as worth it, clearly you are on a new platform that will not need upgrading for a while but can take broadwell-e as well. I paid around 640 for my pieces plus sold on old ones for 250 so 390 for the upgrade and I believe long term it's worth it.

So.. i got my 5930k + RVE today and initial results are

4.5 @ 1.315 with Ram @ 2666 CL15

not sure if i should be happy with that was hoping for 4.6

but guess its still early days
will keep reading and tweaking bios settings

I cant comment on it as I had two faulty UD4 boards and then gave up with Gigabyte and went for MSI (which dont have those cables) and all is ok.

As long as its not a chipset thing (which of course I now know, as MSI and others dont have them) I cant see the cable making any difference at all.

As for why Gigabyte think its necessary is another question - but stulid is not the first Ive heard with a very good oc (I think Boomstick got one early on as well) without using the cable so I wouldnt worry about it
