5820k + single GTX 980 (probably a Classy, if I can get one) with 1080 rad (3 EK PE 360). I want to push both as far as I can in benches and have good 24/7 overclock too.

I have a 1080 rad 2x 480 and 2x 240s

Cpu and 3 GPU same loop

colinmcr would no say its very good chip look at volts and mount cooling power we are talking 2520 radiator space. Even tho its with 3gpus its still ALLOT of rad space !!!! but at lest with solder you cn pump as much volts as your cooling can handle :)

I'd be happy with 4.3ghz to be honest. I'm seriously considering a 5820k. I also think too much is being made of it only having 28 pci lanes, even if using crossfire/sli I don't think the lack of lanes is going to make that much difference in the real world for a dual-gpu setup.

Yeah the 5820k has lost some of its shine after that review. Especially this part -

if you'll only be using one graphics card, the Core i7-5820K is the CPU to go for as its PCI-E lane restrictions won't matter.

And then -

Likewise, if you think you might be dipping your toes into the SLI or CrossFire pools at some point, or even straight away, then the Core i7-5930K is the best bet, although we'll hopefully be looking at the impact of 28 lanes makes on multi-GPU setups in the near future. There is one final point to consider, though, which is the Core i7-4790K. It keeps up well in many tests and is faster in some too as well as being cheaper on its own and offering a significantly cheaper overall system price.

So it would appear the missing lanes do cause issues. I would surmise ATM that those issues mostly arise when you step to 4k. However, the irony is that the 5820k is pretty much a 4k CPU, yet there isn't a single card powerful enough yet to run 4k games smoothly. Not sure how the 295X2 would do though?

Even though they've gotten out the gold awards I am still very, very much on the fence on this one. It's still cheaper to buy a 3930k+ board and ram and you don't miss out on anything.

If you already have a PC with some DDR3 in it I would look to buy a Sandy/Ivy E hex core and board. It will work out cheaper, and you'll have the equivalent of the 5930k, rather than the hobbled lanes of the 5820k.

Either that or wait for DDR4 prices to settle, because right now the 5820k is being ruined because of the ram prices.

Well CF290X's do the job nicely and the 295X2 should be around their performance give or take a few FPS and OcUK are trying to get these cards in at £599.

Running 4K with CF290X's and a 5930K which will clock (fingers crossed) near enough same as my 3770k @ 4.6GHZ I'll be a happy chappy, should be a nice increase in performance and future proof me for some time.

Is the 28 PCIe lanes not likely to become an issue when you start adding in 1 or 2 fast PCIe SSDs (like Intels recent ones) along with 1 or 2 GPU's?

PCIE SSDs use four lanes. You can run them on X1 but you would need to cut open the end of the socket.

I have an OCZ Revodrive 120gb and OCZ state that running them X1 is not recommended because the RAID speed falls to pieces.
