Hayfever - Thread

Worst year for ever as well  I have been using loratadine and feeling better but still sneezing a bit and have soft sac like swelling in one of my nasal passages ( anyone else got this ) , I guess it's the membranes swelling  I'm now addicted to olbas oil inhalers as they really help with the congestion and the misses keeps thinking its one of her Tampons stuck up my nose :D

Yup, this year has been the worst I've ever known. Even my super powerful prescription-only antihistamines are only just taking the edge off it. Normally they sort it out completely.
I need to see the doc this week anyway to get some other medication so I might see if I can up the dose.

The only thing that works for me is Nasonex nasal spray.

And it damn works aswell. Ever since my GP prescribed it to me a few years back, it's been awesome. None of these tablets that never work. Take it twice a day before the Heyfever season starts and then you don't need to worry about anything else.

And every year I'll go to my GP and ask him that I need my yearly Heyfever spray.

If you have hayfever, go to boots and buy a packet of solpadeine max and take 3-4 (no more than 8 in a day) and for most of the day your hayfever will be GONE. All the nasal sprays and antihistamines are very ineffective, what you need is a weak opiate like codeine in solpadeine max to suppress your nervous system and stop it overreacting. I used to suffer like hell from it, couldn't concentrate in the day, couldn't sleep at night and now it doesn't exist thanks to this stuff.

For obvious reasons GPs won't recommend narcotic painkillers but this is a total cure and should be standard treatment.

EDIT: Some people may have slight allergy where they itch from codeine. Also you have to tell the pharmacist it's for a headache.

Hey,

So I've never had hayfever before, am mid 30s.

I don't have itchy eyes or blocked runny nose/anything like that but for the last few days I have been sneezing lots, I'm not normally a sneezy person but I keep sneezing several times in a row, frequently! Could this be hayfever or do you need all the other symptoms too?

I've started wearing wrap-around style sunglasses to keep as much pollen out of my eyes as possible. I look like a pretentious idiot on the train but it's helping a load so i don't care.

Also, the air purifier I bought seems to be working - no more blocked/runny nose or itchy throat at night so it's either worth its weight in gold or is having an amazing placebo effect.

Wow, you registered to give people some really bad advice! That's some going.

How is it bad advice? If you're suffering from hayfever, this will clear up your symptoms. "Drugs are bad mmkay"? Is that it? It's extremely mild over the counter tablets that you can get anywhere not heroin.

This is a thread about hayfever. Hayfever can't be cured but its symptoms can be mitigated. To do this you suggested people do not take antihistamines and corticosteroids (both shown to work with great effect) but instead take a preparation containing: codeine (which won't have an effect on the inflammation and arguably won't be activated in a great number of people due to problems with CYP2D6) and paracetamol (which would have a minute anti-inflammatory effect with its cyclooxygenase action). That is why I say it is bad advice.

Ok, the fact you're bringing up the CYP2D6 issue which happens in a minority of cases shows your sole intention is contrarian ******y, internet kudos for pretend expertise and nothing else. I obviously wasn't using cure in the literal sense. Every summer I would so much as touch my eyes and they would swell up like the elephant man and solpadeine has put a stop to it. I'm suggesting people try it if nothing has worked for them as I related to other people's misery in the thread.

I'll ignore the waffle and cut to the chase. If that were the case why did you say this:

but this is a total cure and should be standard treatment.

Which is why there is a no medical thread on here because everytime we have one we get retarded suggestions like yours.

This year has been really bad for me, leading to an eye's infection. Gone to the GP and she gave me Lodoxamide and Ciprofloxacin, my eyes is much better now. Still taking 2 benadryls in the morning and sudafed for stuffy nosy in the morning.

CYP2D6 deficiency just means it won't work with people who have it. What bearing does that have on how codeine affects hayfever? That's a red flag for 'me mensa iq smart'. I know it works really well for me and you're acting like hayfever treatment is an exact science when it's not been sussed out at all.

To those whose hayfever is making your life miserable, try the solpadeine and ignore a poster named 'xordium' acting like a poster named 'xordium'.

And what effect exactly does codeine have on hayfever and if that is the case why are promoting a preparation that also has paracetamol and possibly caffeine in it.

I know you are going to drag me down to your level and beat me on experience but hey ho let's hear it. Or does it JUST WORK!

Roll on winter,Sick of my blocked up..yet runny nose and im on like 120mg Cetirizine Hydrochloride.

i think my body has got so use to these medications they no longer work. :/

Was going to see my doc about increasing my dosage to 180mg but they make it so bloody hard to get an appointment, even a phone one..i gave up.

I keep having odd days where I'm like a running tap. Spent the whole of Saturday out in fields and forestry and was fine though! Makes no sense.

Managed to mostly keep mine under control with over-counter stuff this year, cetirizine and loratidine being rotated!

Think about it though it collects indoors but outside it gets cleared outside by rain etc. Also the pollen count tends to be a lot higher in the morning and the evening when you are likely to be indoors. It's mostly a case of correlation rather than causation.
