Head of E.A Origin says "Steam sales are bad" & wants Origin to be the hub for gamers

I'll personally never forgive them for ruining C&C, I absolutely adored that franchise and now it's just a soulless cash cow churning out ****, unfinished games.

For that alone, EA can absolutely go to hell.

For starters, no program should be forced to be installed to play a game. If people want to install Steam or Origin, or GFWL, or Ubisoft Play thingy, then that's their choice.

Companies should be fined heavily for it.

Eh? That's a pretty ridiculous idea.

I'm not a huge fan of EA, and much less of one of Origin...but they're still better than Activision.

Steam supply a tonne of Indie games, free games and Valve even support Indie devs.
Steam as the application: browser, library, friends IM, in game chat, screenshot browser, community system, achievements and little to no issues.

VS

Origin and the EA money cow..

Do we really need to compare them, Origin is CLEARLY a big pile of poo and EA are CLEARLY a stereotypical money grabbing extortionist of a corporation who care little for the end gamer and care not for other companies and devs.

EA has more respect for the publisher than the customer. The customer is always right, if they are going to sell games at full price obviously not many people why buy it compared to steam.

Lol at all the rage here.

I kind of get what he is getting at. I give you people an example.

Go to the dayZ thread and theres people wanting the game but do not wanna pay £20 for it which to be honest aint that much for a game. But people saying they want to till the sales in return the developer is bow losing out.

I can give you another example why sales are bad :p

The amount of games i have in steam and i might've played them for an hour or so

So that would be as an example £5/h

Wheres as ME3 of BF3 as an example i paid 40 quid or whatever it was byt spend 100s hours in it already which brings the price per hour a lot more down. But hey people love to bash EA. :). Would i prefer origin not to be there probably since i'd rather have everything in one place but i can live with it.

Troll me all you want now, im not an EA fanboi apart from the NHL series ;)

Anyway it seems people just like to be enraged and flame everything. Live and let live i'd say. You dont have to buy EA games if you don't want to it's that simple!

EA and Origin are the devil. its rent a game and they decide when to evict you; why people agree to their draconian T&C's boggles my mind.

So someone who has yet to purchase the game nearly three years after release is saying "Too expensive", where is the lost sale?

Truth be told, they have no intention of buying the game at anything less than 10p anyway.

I like how he says "The hardcore" have given Origin a tough time.

What type of gamer plays high end PC games via DD at AAA prices.

Hardcore gamers.

Didn't know you could get Origin for the Wii.

Does Origin provide games from indie developers? (Not a rhetorical question), I'm assuming no however..

if you read the interview you would know the answer but like nearly every basher in this thread that obviously took the headline and didnt read the article....

Q: How is your program going to provide free distribution for indies?

David DeMartini: We've had a ton of phone calls, because anybody who's looking to be crowd-funded has called and said "This seems to good to be true!" And we say it's too good to be true, but it is true. If you have a successfully crowd-funded venture, the first 90 days of sales on Origin is free of any fee for Electronic Arts. This was the first thing Origin did that no one could complain about. The hardcore loves crowd-funding, and that hardcore has been a little tough on Origin the last twelve months, so we figured this is something we could do that is going to please the hardcore; it's going to please the independent development community, and it just seemed like a great idea all the way around.

Q: One of the problems with Steam for independent developers has been the uncertainty of whether or not Steam would distribute your title once it's done, because you have to go through an approval process.
the answer to that isnt importain but the question is.
Q: At least if they've gone through that crowd-funding filter they have convinced thousands of people that it's a good thing.

David DeMartini: If it's finished, if it's credible, if it's testable, we're going to post it.
no silly approval process for crowd funded games (kickstarters)

So no megasales that can/will attract attention to new indie developers, and no approval process that ensures what you buy is any good.

So Origin is going to be better by selling worse games, at a higher price. Awesome idea.

What has the time after release to do with it though. Truth to be told here most people are saying that like to support the developer (at least that's how they come across) when they really are just tight people and don't want to spend much money. Where as if they were CEO of any company they would probably as well try too make as much money as they can.

Didn't they have that Advent Calendar thing over Christmas where you got a deal a day? I recall them having some pretty meaty discounts.
