Helicopter ditches in North Sea (Ditching Aug23 2013) - Public Inquiry

Shock and horror as jobs that pay a premium for being dangerous turn out to be actually dangerous.

You go say that to the faces of the victim's families and friends and see the response you get!

It is obviously a dangerous job, that doesn't trivialise accidental death.

Not everyone earns mega bucks in the oil industry and those that do isn't due to it being dangerous either. There's far more dangerous industries to work in onshore as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the woman that died was a stewardess in the accommodation, hardly a well paid job.

They knew it is a risky job, no-one forced them to do it, they did it for the money. Their families would also be fully aware of it being a dangerous occupation.

So you are saying people shouldn't be shocked or feel any sense of horror at quite possibly untimely and unnecessary death because of that factor?

What ever happened to empathy and sympathy?

Off shore work pays a premium for being anti-social, disruptive and more difficult than regular work.

Not because you should be half expecting to die in a helicopter crash.

Get out of this thread if you believe that. Some of our guys HAVE to do rig work as its on our company's scope of works and they take us out to them. Iv avoided it so far but its looking likely ill be going out next year. These accidents are terrifying though i wouldn't want to be put in such situation ever. Feel terrible for those who have been. RIP To those lost :(

I've only ever been in a Dauphin, which are really cramped. What are the SPs like in comparison?
A lot of the seats face seats opposite them so you end up having to put your legs inbetween the legs of the person opposite in a your leg, his leg, your leg, his leg sort of way. If you're not at a window or door and it went down uncontrolled you're basically ****ed.
