Help for long time existing customer but new to forums

I never meant to put the phrase narrow minded bud, iPad auto thing. Obviously I assume you can see why it would be frustrating for someone that’s spent thousands with them over a decade but then is excluded from there voucher plan scheme

I'm sure it is. I've got access to those deals, but I'm not in the market for that hardware. That doesn't mean I feel hard done by, or that I've been excluded because the hardware I want isn't on offer, even though I have also "spent thousands with them over a decade". It is what it is, and I'm actually pleased that some people on the forums are getting the opportunity to buy what they want at this bonkers time, and those cards haven't gone to scalpers or miners.

Yawn, see various other threads where this is discussed

well if you’re got access to those deals I’m not sure why you would feel hard done by? I haven’t and I am in the market for that hardware. So obviously I’m going to feel very differently. But your right it’s brilliant what they’ve been trying to do, I just hope they find a way of including genuine long time customers who might not have been so active on the forums. I wish other company’s would try thing like Overclockers have, instead of just selling the cards at scalper prices. One can dream :D

if you want a card, its easier and cheaper to go buy a founders edition. even all the replies you;re doing to threads right now will probably not get you access to codes as they were looking to do it for long term members who didnt have a high post count, not new members who quickly spammed to 50 posts or whatever.

Because just like you, I see other people getting deals to buy what they want, but there are no deals for what I want. I'm not upset about it, because it's the best they can do right now, and some people (not everyone) on here will benefit.

I (like you) will just have to hope OCUK figure out some way to help me out next time around, or that the global shortage situation changes and things eventually get a little closer to normality.

Everyones spent thousands mate, its not how much you spent. They gave these codes to members who had contributed to the community, helping others solve issues etc. Saying you spent thousands over number of years and therefore i should get a card just makes you sound entitled. Sorry to be so blunt but I've seen this all too often, i also totally understand your frustration too.

There are a lot of us in the same position sadly. Personally I have spent a lot with OCUK over the past 5 years, north of 10k. What I haven’t done is post prolifically on the forums with only a few hundred posts.

I get the impression that they are limited in what they can do by their website and their forums being out of date which means their only option is to target their prolific forum posters for deals over their best customers. Better than nothing but still sucks for those who only visit the forums occasionally or read more than post.

The short answer is that it's a matter of trust. The last time they did vouchers they were on the public forum, and many of the cards went into the hands of scalpers.
It's not a good solution, what OCUK have done, but in most people's opinion, it's better than doing nothing. That's the key ultimately, finding a way to only sell to loyal customers without the difficulties of vetting individual customers or implementing new software.

I'd like to think that long-time forum members are loyal and wouldn't scalp.

If I saw an FE card available from Nvidia, I'd buy it so I can scalp it for an easy profit. I haven't actually done this because I'm too busy to keep checking but I wouldn't think twice if the opportunity arose. I'd do the same if I saw a GPU at a competitor for a good price as well.

However, I could never do that to OCUK because of the forum community. I like to think of you all as my online friends and it would feel like a back-stabbing betrayal to scalp a GPU that could have gone to a fellow OCUK forum member for gaming on. I'm sure there's tons of others who feel the same way. That's how powerful a forum community is.

If the offer codes were opened up to long time OCUK customers who weren't forum members, they wouldn't feel that sense of loyalty so more would get scalped. That's my opinion anyway.

Well yeh obviously lol, but that can easily fall into an individual’s interpretation. Someone could say I’m trying to be active and post relevant posts to threads to get 50 posts and look at my posts and see they are genuine integration, regardless of intention as they were all relative posts.. Someone else could say well they may have been genuine and relevant posts but knowing you only got active to obtain 50 posts is still classed as spamming in that persons eyes. So no It isn’t that straight forward pal

There is no right answer for everybody, here. This is the reality of the situation. But, and this is just my own opinion; If you have signed up recently to reach any arbitrary number in the hopes to gain access to member deals then you are doing wrong, no matter how relevant your post could well be. Don't take it personally, but the limitations exist to try and provide existing members with the best deals they can by attempting to weed out any potential scalpers - members who themselves have also spent thousands over the years and also been waiting months and months for cards now just like some of you guys and take an active role on the forum, which we all know 99% of the guys joining now just to try and get a deal have no intention of carrying on if they managed to get a card. It is what it is; I'm sure other retailers have their own deals you could go after :)

Can anything be done about this?

The OCUK forum/community is unique, we have people who have been here since OCUK was first opened over two decades ago, and were here to support each other in our overclocking efforts, hardware issues and other computing questions (and woes). OCUK grew both in forum terms and in shop terms, and trying to support a community of ten of thousands of users with a couple of hundred graphics cards is hardly a big deal. Is it ideal for everyone? No, but no solution ever suits everyone and there will always be people looking to be included when being excluded, but answer this, do you want to be part of the OCUK community, or just get a graphics card?

I'm one of the new members of the forum and completely understand the rationale behind the MM voucher system. I've only started into gaming and then PC gaming during the lockdown and while it's frustrating not being able to get hands on a GPU at reasonable price, it's good to see some measures being implemented by retailers to reward and provide availability for those looking for cards.

Hi, I have a long purchase history with Overclockers, going back ten years and have brought a lot of stuff on my account. I didn’t realise but the forums accounts seem to be a separate entity to the main Overclockers account, which means despite my history, I’m am seen as a new member to Overclockers as far as the forums go, which then limits me to be able to get involved in Overclockers new graphics card voucher scheme.

Can anything be done about this? I mean I’ve spent thousands with Overclockers over the years?

thanks, sorry if it’s a big of a newb question
FYI OCUK staff - I'm OK with gpu deals via members market - nice little reward for those of us willing to participate in contributing to the community.

Do you not realise that OC are actively trying to help members like yourself who've been here a number of years but don't have MM access by drastically reducing the post count of the voucher scheme?

How do you know how much high post count members spend?

Its a pretty decent solution to the bots problem IMO. I would assume its pretty short term, I dont see overclockers doing this all shipments in 2021, so Im pretty interested in what they can do to counteract the bots in the future. Hopefully it will let some of us get gpus sooner than scalper bots can access them.

Good idea but for us people who don't go to the forum and only buy instead we can't get it.

That's kind of the point. If you set the bar too low then they'll be a load of scalpers spamming the forums to access the codes or they'll end up being shared publically.

Having a high bar (like the threshold for the MM) means the cards reach people who are less likely to scalp or share the codes.

I have tried to order a RX6800 in Dec 2020 from OCUK, but payment failed and then the cards were gone. Hopefully can be included in the voucher scheme.

The original voucher deals a few months ago were in the Members Market, 1000 posts to access. That went well.

Then it was opened up to whole forum. Unfortunately it was badly abused. The voucher was posted on social media and on Discord. An OC staffer has said he personally cancelled 50 orders for attempting to scalp and banned the offenders from the forum.

Now can you see the issue, lots of newbies joining in the last day or two and asking about the voucher deals? Coincidence?

OC are looking to offer the deals to 50+ post count members who've been here an as yet unspecified length of time to combat the scalpers.
